Kiffen didn't take the firing on the tarmac at USC very well. It was a turning point in his career, and I think he learned a lot from it.

Making almost $10 million a year at Ole Miss is a good gig. Oxford is a great town, the fans are super loyal and supportive, and he doesn't have to win the SEC or Natty every year to keep them happy. He has major job security. If he can win the SEC or a Natty, he will be a hero.

I also think that Ole Miss can become an SEC power. Freeze beat the gumps twice while he was there. There is no reason why Kiffin can't do the same. While Mississippi doesn't have the high school talent that Florida or Georgia has, he can still recruit plenty of talent from elsewhere, and utilize the portal. I don't know how many Ole Miss players hit the portal the last few years, but I'm guessing it wasn't near as many as at other SEC schools.

 

Well, then, never mind. I guess we should just keep paying top coaching dollar for losing seasons and sub-top-10 recruiting classes.

Meanwhile, I’ll settle for enjoying the record-setting Orange Bowl loss suffered by the the most evil and soulless team in college football.

 

I hope Muschamp will be able to convince Smart to make Trevor Etienne a linebacker.

 

Well … he won’t have to block in that case.

 

I do think Billy can get us there, the same fans trying to run him off would have ran off Kirby too. I really like the new hires, and I really hope the smoke is true about 1 or both OL coaches not being retained when their contracts expire in a couple weeks & he hires an OC. Next season is w/o a doubt the hardest SOS I've ever seen, but thankfully most of our opponents will be replacing key guys as well so it's not some impossible feat. But game #1 Billy has to come out & make a statement vs miami, no excuses at home.

 

Even better if he convinces Smart to retire or go elsewhere and Muschamp takes his place in Athens.

 

He would be the tiniest defensive player in the country.

 

I wonder if Etienne realized that the competition at UGA will include that RB named Robinson who the broadcasters rightly called "a battering ram." Good luck, Trevor!

 

It's funny unless you stop and think about the context. Arguably our best RB may struggle for carries at UGA. If you actually stop and think, it's just depressing.

FSU had their players together practicing for weeks as a cohesive unit. UGA put in backups that weren't on the depth chart. UGA's backups won 21-0.

 

I too think the firing on the tarmac was one of the best things that has happened to Kiffin: that and working for Saban.
My opinion of him has changed as he has evolved. He is a good coach and makes college football fun. That said: I think offers for his services are inevitable but, he has a really good situation at Ole Miss.

 

GSU fans and apologist SUCK! They act like all these guys opted out because in their words “we were cheat and out of the playoff”. So, if this fsu team had one loss and were invited to the orange bowl all those guys wouldn’t have opted out? No one believes that. Hell, Jayden Daniel’s has opted out!.
Getting cheated has nothing to do with it. Not caring enough to play a lower ranked bowl is the INLY reason they don’t play.

I hope the Big 10 take Duke, WF, and Miami and leave FSU to play in the Big12. Enjoy playing on the plains of nowhere.

 

Agree about the Miami game. Absolute must win at home. And I will borrow Ali Peek’s words to describe it:

“Losing to Miami will not be the reason Billy Napier gets fired. But I cannot see a way in which he recovers, if he does lose this game.”

Will be the true measuring stick for the season. We may win that game and still end up with a losing or 0.500 record. But if we lose that game, I do not see a scenario where Billy can turn around the 2024 season (which is then sure to spiral into a potential 3-9/4-8 type of situation), and there is nothing he can sell recruits to sign on in 2025. If they somehow decide to hang onto Billy for 2025, the recruiting class will rank somewhere around 25-35, booster patience will be non-existent, fan apathy will set in to 2014/2017 levels. Ugly situation all around.
