COVID-19 postponement tracker: NFL joins NHL, college basketball in pushing back games amid outbreaks

In college hoops, the CBS Sports Classic matchup in Las Vegas between Ohio State and Kentucky has been cancelled, the Buckeyes announced, and the Penn State-VCU matchup set for Saturday has also been cancelled. North Carolina also had to cancel its game with UCLA because of an outbreak in the Bruins program and now the Tar Heels will take on the Wildcats in Las Vegas in the CBS Sports Classic on Saturday.

Additionally, the Iona-Seton Hall game set for Madison Square Garden on Saturday as part of the Gotham Classic has been cancelled as well. The St. John's vs. Pitt matchup in the other Gotham Classic game has not yet been affected.
    -------------------

Also Colorado State's game with Bama next Tuesday night has been cancelled and will not be made up.....

We can talk about the cancellations but if arguments over covid in general start I'll have to move this to TH or either start deleting posts that try to carry it that way.

This is a standing rule and comes from further up the chain.

Why don't you delete the offending post and warn the person who posted it?

Then if it continues.....suspend the offending party(ies).

Moving the thread accomplishes zero with regard to enforcing forum policy.

    Just my 2 cents......

I’m guessing that 1 offending post will shortly become many so it’s easier to just move the thread or delete it if people can’t follow the rules. If it were up to me, I’d ban the poster and move the thread

I hope this is basketbally enough and not too Covid-generally, because my question is about the sport's immediate future and not meant to start an argument. Does UF require its players and coaches to get vaccinated? How about the SEC?

Sports related reply - the new normal should be that players with COVID should be allowed to play as long as they are vaccinated and asymptomatic. Trying not to have any COVID infected persons play at this point is a fruitless pursuit.

I heard this morning that the NFL is loosening restrictions along these lines. They're coming down the stretch of the season, have postponed a few games this week and can't afford cancellations.

    Hall:

If these COVID cancellations screw up our DVR programming, and you determine, in your wisdom, to move any related posts to TH, you might want to consider moving them to Gator Bytes instead.

It's not really up to me. According to the last instructions which were handed down anything to do with Covid as far as discussion of the disease itself and the like had to be moved to TH. So far I see no problems with what is being discussed.

It was just a little dry humor on my part, although I am hoping that my dvr programming doesn’t get screwed up.

The Memphis-Tennessee basketball game, originally set for 11 a.m. Saturday, was canceled less than 90 minutes before tip-off due to COVID-19 protocols within the Memphis program.

Feel like it’s about watching positivity rates. Most counties in the state of Florida are under 4%. That may not be the same for other states so each individual area bares watching.

Will cancellations by an SEC team result in a forfeit by that team?

I think that's the way it will work this year.

There were 10 games cancelled and three games postponed yesterday. Five total today.

St. Johns gets a win today due to Seton Hall forfeiture.
Creighton gets a win due to DePaul forfeiture.

There are three other games cancelled and one postponed.

So the thing to do, if you know you have an outbreak on the team, delay announcing it until just before tipoff, on the slim chance that the other team might have to forfeit first.
