while i know the burden of past sucess is heavy, it seems this year's team is where they should be. ie they have beaten who they should have, albeit not as well with some as they should, and all the 4 teams they have lost to are ranked ahead of them.are they inconsistant, yes, but the bottom line is they win when they should.

Not sure beating teams you "should" matters all that much if the bar is lowered.
Yes, UF tennis bar is historically very high. And reaching that super high level may not be possible every year. But the last 4-5 years have essentially set every "low " in the history of the program.....uf is no longer a contender for the title, and probably not a shot at top 8. Uf is on the fringe of even hosting, a given for decades.
There are no injury issues, no extraordinary circumstances, they have just not been able to play at the highest level. And this is a veteran roster with a graduate sr, two more regular seniors, and 2 juniors.
The roster management since the last title has been baffling at best. I don't think even coach would argue that. A hole was dug and they have never gotten out.
Tennis is a sport where you can almost instantly reverse your fortunes with roster upgrades. We been waiting a few years now

Those 4 teams we lost to should be chasing us, no the other way around.

One of our former players who had transferred to Oklahoma after the season last year, Canadian Layne Sleeth, is the Sooners #1 player and currently ranked #17 in the NCAA. The Sooners are having an historic season. They were runner-up to top-ranked North Carolina at the Indoors Championships in February. They've beaten defending NCAA champion and current #5 Texas twice, top 10 teams USC and Pepperdine and are now ranked #2 in the latest polls. I don't know if she was dealing with injuries in Gainesville and wasn't able to play to her full potential? Or if she was unhappy and needed a change? She is Canadian and perhaps it was too hot and humid in Florida? I really want to know if her transferring had anything to do with our coaching staff? She's obviously playing at a higher and more consistent level now. If she were still a Gator and playing this well, Florida would be one of the favorites to win NCAA title this year IMHO

The Women's team's bar has been set higher than any other Division 1 program not named Stanford. Failing to reach the NCAA finals was considered a disappointing season. Losing before the semifinals was viewed as a stunning upset. Only twice we failed to make it to the QF. In 2015 as the 2nd seed, we played a Stanford team in the round of 16- they had their top 6 players healthy for the 1st time that year and had just dominated then PAC-12 tournament- and we lost 4-3 (Stanford ended up winning the title). The other time came in 2004. And it wasn't because we were having a bad season. We were defending NCAA champs, the top seed, we had won 40 matches in-a-row, 126-11 in the last 5 years when Miami stunned us at home 4-3 (it our last home loss until 2017 after winning 163 straight home matches). We have reached the NCAA quarterfinals 30 times, the semifinals 25 times, the finals 14 times and held up the trophy 7 times since 1987. We've also won the Team Indoors title 7 times. We had been ranked in the top 10 every year except 1- in 2009 we had only 5 scholarship players and still managed to beat the 2nd ranked team and reached the QF's. That's how high the bar has been set for the Women 's program. Since winning our 7th NCAA title in 2017 we have lost in the 2nd round (round of 32) every year and have not been ranked higher than #15. Before 2018 we were 56-1 vs FSU, then lost 4-in-a-row (we had never lost to Auburn until 2018). 5 years of struggling and program-record low results can no longer be considered as an anomaly or a "hiccup." 5-star recruits' short attention spans will soon think of Florida's dominance in the past tense and are no longer relevant. The longer the Gators fail to reach the QF's or top-10 ranking, the harder the climb will be back to the top.

Harlem sums up my opinion....we have set almost every program low the last 5 years, and don't seem to be coming out if it.
Today's match vs au is crucial.....win will likely assure a regional host and at least mean we are top 3 in conference. Lose and you drop yet another level
