Jesse Palmer is a talking head? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You want "the truth" then go to a party with those guys, get them loosened up and THEN ask them what they think. Otherwise, a talking head is on the TV. And that IS where he mainly resides and he KNOWS who is paying his freight.
I'm not the one who said CBN is on the hot seat. This forum is replete with examples of posters connecting the "hot seat" with him getting fired after year 3. When the term "hot seat" gets connected with imminent (or soon) firing, then that's what it becomes. In fact if we all knew for certain that CBN was guaranteed 5 years, would anyone think it appropriate to say he is on the "hot seat" after 2 years?
No coach is guaranteed 5 years. They are guaranteed whatever life of whatever contract they signed OR the buyout terms from that contract. Apparently the media thinks its entirely appropriate.
I think the differences are Campbell is a great communicator (never ever dodged a question) his teams rarely make silly mistakes, his teams have always been very prepared, he is very intense and he is urgent. One other thing I’ve seen is he has established a true toughness within his team, but again that comes from urgency and intensity. I feel sometimes our coaching staff is not urgent enough, not intense enough, etc. If you watched him on HBO you saw his intensity and communication skills. I’d say Dan and his staff are very very different than our current gator staff and I like our current gator staff we just need them to become much much more intense and urgent.
I don’t think Cris can be compared to Jesse Palmer. Cris, at this point in career can afford to be open. Jesse is lucky to still have a job. But I do agree that if Jesse said it, I wouldn’t give it any credibility
Definitely want Billy to succeed but: Best recruiting- not sure about that. Learning curve should end quicker.
You mean he should have reached the top of his learning curve in less than 2 years? Really? Regarding recruiting, who since Urban Meyer has recruited better than Billy Napier? Consider how weak our in-state high school connections have been. Not only is Napier bringing in talent like Lagway and McCray, the fruits of a lot of his work should develop over time -- like breaking through to IMG. In your opinion, has Muschamp, Mac, or Mullen recruited better than Napier?
I prefaced my remarks with "if we all knew for certain" as a hypothetical with the premise that he won't be fired. Which is what a 5 year guarantee would mean. You can say no coach is guaranteed 5 years, but an 85% buyout on a 7 year contract is as close to a guarantee as you can get. I don't believe that UAA would sign that without consulting with the boosters. Hopefully CBN turns it around this upcoming year and this discussion is moot.
Well, if you want to go by the only real measurable factor (recruiting rankings) he fits in nicely with that group. Only Muschamp who once rode a superb defensive class (and woeful offensive one) to a top 5 ranking did better.
Of course you wouldn't listen to Collinsworth. You are so much more knowledgeable about football than he is.
But his offense isn't bad. If we had even a middle of the pack defense last season ranked 50th which only gave up 24 pts a game we win at minimum 3 more games. The arky, lsu and mizzou games we scored more than would have been needed to win if we held them to the avg of the 50th ranked defense . The offense score 2 less TDs than the texas offense in the regular season. (41-43) certainly no one thinks the Texas offense sucks. A better defense would make a lot of things look better. That is the primary goal is to Improve that side and of course the OL.
It's not something to be disparaged, however, having a realistic outlook is not something to be disparaged either. If you know in your heart that we will win all of the final 5 or 6 games next season then good for you. And I hope you're right.
I see this as more of Jimmy Sexton sold Stricklin a bill of goods based on us desperately wanting coaching stability (and of course that there were myriad top programs straining at the leash to hire Napier for top dollar). I have no doubt that Stricklin took that along with what even Stricklin called the best prepared plan he had ever heard from a prospective coach and sold it to the biggest boosters. Unfortunately, it doesn't mean those same Boosters won't have convenient memories if this thing continues to go South. Amen, Bro....and I'll even be happy to let Stricklin off my naughty list if this happens.
Yes but the NCAA removing the initial counter limit of 25 per class changes things a bit with regards to rankings since the rankings are influenced by# of commitsnin the class. The "3M coaches" they didn't have to worry about a school signing 28-30 kids every year. The old transfer rules and 25 scholarships limit per class made that a non factor. New world out there, hard to even compare to 3 years ago.
Okay, this is fine. Tell us, how HAS he addressed the O-line? You think that there were games we lost by a bit (with the defense we had and not the one we deserve) because he used up too many TOs when the offense did not "get it" or we got penalties or his end-of-the-half/game lack of urgency? Isn't it plausible to say his lack of these things are a result of his having too many hats to wear on game day? As I say, over and over, it is HIS team until it isn't. If he can do it "his way" by being the OC (stop the nonsense about Sale) as well as cleaning up the STs gaffs, then good for him. I just don't see a sense of urgency in his actions to do this.
Let's try this again. TV: We will give you $2 Million dollars to talk on the set. Me: Tell me what you want me to say, and how high? (I presume you get the last reference).
He's signed more 5* star players than the last 2/3 coaches combined and just signed the highest rated QB we've had since Tebow and he did that coming off of 3 losing seasons ( 1 of them mullens). Imagine when he starts winning those close games, and more.
Jimmy bent Scott over a barrel and got everything he wanted and then some, imho. Why, because he knew Scott only had one name on his list and was fixated with Billy. Most of the coaches are in his stable and the few that aren’t he knows if you’re talking to them too. He controls the market, so you can’t say you’re also talking to a few other guys, he’s knows full well if you’re BS’ing. The BIG mistake was giving Billy 7yrs & $51+mil, he was not worthy of that, again imho. UF is absolutely stuck because of that.
