On what might have been a historically bad free-throw shooting night… Riley went 6 for 6 in the closing seconds, and iced the game.

And he only no doubted 2 of them.
Four of them bounced around the rim a few times….before going in……..not easy on us watching the game 100’s of miles away.

That was a clutch spot with no Pullin.

What a joke those refs were. Pullin fouls out. Clayton with 4. Hell didn’t Riley also end up with 4? Talk about refs dictating the game. They almost took out our whole backcourt. Unheard of, esp considering our guards don’t guard anyone lmao.

In the end UGA had their foul issues too, so maybe it wasn’t horribly unbalanced at the end, but still… bad.

He’s played a lot more under control the last few weeks. The occasional lazy TO is still infuriating, but he’s giving great effort and for the most part trying to do the right things. And tonight he was FT clutch late. Can’t ask much more from him.
Hope he is here next year, there could be some real growth there.

Been watching CBB for 40 years - never seen it so consistently bad in terms of officiating dictating the flow of the game nearly every game.

The SECT officiating has been... noteworthy.
There were 603 fouls called in the game before ours and that made that game take 4 hours. The zebras must have had a bar bet going because there were then 657 fouls called in our game and it took 4-1/2 hours and the guys didn't get off the court until well past midnight. I just hope we were able to get some sleep and will be allowed to sleep in this morning.
My numbers may be a bit off but you get the idea.
Watching that last offensive whistle that fouled ZP out of the game got me jumping out of my chair in a fit of blind, spitting rage. The look on ZP's face--"NOW you're calling that?"--said it all.

Amazing how White has not adapted and stubbornly plays the same scheme since coming in the SEC. Our rebounding advantage was the difference in the game.

That ole miss game was 60-55 or something with about 2 mins to play and they ended up scoring something like 25 pts the last 2 mins. Some of that was ole miss intentionally fouling and then turning around and getting an uncontested east layup. Fouls are way up in general it seems, UF has shot 40 foul shots 2 of the last 3 games, that can't have happened very often in the past. Therefore scoring is getting inflated due to the final 5 mins of games. Uga was in the double bonus what felt like all night, but neither team could make FTs or that game would have been in the 90s again as well.

Not only did he hit the free throws, he also got some separation on the inbounds plays so Florida could get the ball in play. On one of them the defender just grabbed him because he could not stay with him.

Yeah rough night for Blue Cain haha
I think he was the one that just hugged Kugel going across the entire side of the court. Cain got blocked what seemed like 4-5 times going to the basket. Guys were stuffing him left and right.

In general, what is the explanation for the inconsistency between basketball halves and officiating approach? Officials seem to basically let the teams play in the first half without too many called fouls, but then seem to take over the game in the second half. It seems to happen too regularly to be a coincidence. I wonder what halftime discussion topic/strategy dictates this? I wish I aged in "last 2 minutes" basketball time.

I actually thought he got about as much as possible out of his team last night. He attacked our two main weaknesses: matching up with a zone defense and stopping hard driving guards. It almost worked too. He admitted at halftime that his team isn't particularly good at playing zone, but knew it was his only chance. I'm not MW fan, but I thought that aside from the technical, he coached better last night than just about anytime at UF.

I disagree. I ask more from him like playing a lot better defense and making 1 inch shots and never making an unforced turnover. Being just dependable would put us in the sweet 16 imo. He did what he’s supposed to do last night and then rose to the occasion. Really sweet.
It’s Micah I’m really worried about …what happened to him?

Micah can’t defend without fouling. He hasn’t gone 4 minutes without a foul in seemingly forever. On the rare occasions he stays foul free he’s pretty effective.

Some of his fouls are real, some are refs not letting him stand his ground.
I think last night, CTFG wanted him to play physically against Tchewe (sp?) and not worry much about fouling, because that guy was playing bully ball in our last two meetings. CTFG was willing to absorb a few fouls and bank on our frontcourt depth to get through the game.
I'm expecting Micah to get some big rebounding numbers tonight.

And he WANTED to take those free throws. Maybe that will help him turn things around.

Man... we must be watching different games. Clayton's foot shuffling on defense is crazy good. Sometimes I'm watching him defend and I'm thinking there is no way he can move his feet fast enough to get in front of the dribbler, and yet he does. Zyon is the same. Kugel and Richard as well. We have four ball hawks. Not only that, Clayton just randomly swats away layups and dunks like a big man. How many chase down blocks has Clayton had where he embarrassed a 6'7" or taller player who thought they had an easy fast break dunk?

We struggle sometimes with missed assignments, but to say they don't defend is IMO inaccurate. And don't @ me with advanced stats that some nerd looked up. lol

Yea, on one play Clayton was actively trying to take the ball away from him and he was having none of it. It was the inbounds play after Clayton coughed it up (though he was definitely fouled).

There is no SEC officiating. The refs are not tied to the conferences.

That last foul on Pullin was terrible, and right after they called a foul on Richard because the Georgia player threw a shoulder into his belly while he was straight up with his feet planted.
