Completely agree, but if the FDA is adding the warning to the J&J vaccine, but not the nRNA vaccines, it is just bad optics.

I saw the interview in its entirety and what really shocked me wasn't that Dr. Fiscus was fired for promoting Covid-19 vaccinations, she was pressured to pressured to end the promotion of any vaccination programs included those for HPV, MMR and annual seasonal flu shots. Anti-vaxxers have literally taken over the Tennessee state government. When it comes to a distrust of science the US is regressing a new version of the Dark Ages. If the current crop of anti-vaxxers were around in the '50s polio may have never been eradicated in the US.

Cool, political debate, because we don't have any other threads for those......meanwhile.......

WHO study all but crushes Gilead's Veklury (Remdesivir) and, at the same time, proves for about the 1000th time that Hydroxychloroquine does not do anything.

Gilead's Veklury shows 'no antiviral effects' against COVID-19 in small WHO study

While I don't agree with not requiring MMR, the HPV and seasonal Flu shots should not be required IMHO.
Seasonal Flu is easily treated with numerous approved meds.
HPV is not spread in the community unless through sexual contact. It also doesn't cover all HPV strains that cause cervical cancer.

Covid shots were not a big deal for me. Flu shots and all the ones I took for school or the military also didn’t bother me much other than a sore arm or butt.
Took the first shingles shot yesterday and it feels like someone beat me with a bat.

I took my first shingles shot about a month ago and my upper arm hurt for 3 days, like a huge bruise.

emergency use. people that won't take the vaccine because it isn't fully approved likely beg for this that has the same EUA only. Glad they are getting more effective treatments. Sad that the only reason they are needed is because people won't get vaccinated

This is interesting. We've been giving Remdesivir and steroids as a first line of defense treatment to anyone who either has "the look", (meaning a medical history that includes obesity, diabetes and/or COPD), or requires any oxygen at all to remain above a 93% pulse ox. It will be interesting to see if that continues or if we go directly to MABS which were usually held until a patient's oxygen needs increased to around 4 LPM or more.

These are very expensive meds. And to be honest, I don't know how much they work. Though we've seen better survival rates as time has gone on as we started giving these drugs regularly, I don't know if the reason is that the drugs are working or if the patients who did worse or died earlier were the most susceptible ones and the patients now are generally more healthy to begin with.

Flu shots are required for employment in most places where it makes sense. My mother, an RN now of 54 years (still has her license through 2022) was required to have a flu shot every one of the last 25 years she worked in the largest public hospital in Broward county. However, I agree people who do not work in hospitals, elder care centers, rehab centers or pediatric medical practices probably should not have this mandated.

Meanwhile, further down in Pfizer's quarterly report was an update on its potential oral treatments for COVID-19. They have enrolled adults for its parallel Phase 2/3 trials for 2 different anti-viral candidates. One targeted at those with severe disease and are already hospitalized (think remdesivir competition) and one targeted at those with mild to moderate disease with higher risks, but outside of hospital settings. They expect data near December.

So far, only pooled, retrospective data reported:
    • Statins did not improve the outcome for patients in general
    • However, for patients with multiple comorbidities, outcomes were better.
I think the problem with early studies was that when people were getting sick at first they were stopping all non-treatment medications, thus all of the data to date is muddied.

The NIH has several double blind, controlled studies in progress to try and clarify if there are any meaningful findings from the early data.
