You learn something new every day. I didn't know that the GOAT warned against Clarence Thomas being his replacement:

I'm so old I remember when Abe Fortas was forced to resign as a SCOTUS justice under threat of impeachment for a relationship not unlike those of Clarence Thomas although I guess the difference was that Fortas was receiving a cash stipend at the time while Thomas was receiving in-kind goodies although they were worth considerably more than what Fortas was receiving. The bigger difference of course is that today the Supreme Court has become far more politicized than what it was over 50 years ago with one political party being much more wedded to politics than ethical standards.
Abe Fortas resigns from Supreme Court May 15, 1969

Yeah that always gets forgotten about when the conservatives say that the Supreme Court wars began with Robert Bork

Wasn't this about the same time the GOP had some balls (all members of the Senate in the 93rd Congress) and threatened Nixon with impeachment and removal from office for offenses far less egregious than those of the prior occupant of the White House? Thomas can and should be the first Justice to be impeached since Chase in 1805.He is an absolute disgrace to the institution, which means he will never give up his seat voluntarily.

So, the OP said Thomas was illegally doing certain things.
    when was the trial?

Or, is this the same ole Leftist BS whereby folks are smeared, innuendos shared and Joe Average says "Gee, I guess Thomas is a scumbag"? If so, and no charges have been brought nor convictions made I'm glad I've passed on the ensuing 15+ pages of mud throwing.
    Carry on.

Is your argument that a person can't break the law unless they're charged and convicted of a crime? You could have simply educated yourself on what's happening before posting. But if you did that, it might have prevented you from concluding, without any real information, that this is all "same ole Leftist BS whereby folks are smeared." So I can understand why you'd want to avoid the facts. They might just challenge your preconceived notions.

OP said it was illegal. I believe we have a system to decide what is and is not "illegal" but am not an attorney; so, perhaps you can help me out. If I'm wrong and we don't have a system then I guess anyone can claim almost anything is illegal - and with enough hype from friendly sources you can damage anyone irreparably.

Is it only illegal if you get found guilty? Are all the unsolved crimes not really crimes?

Ethics reform comes to the SCOTUS - Justice Thomas declares trips on Crow’s jet for 2022

Clarence Thomas officially discloses private trips on GOP donor Harlan Crow's plane — CNN Politics

Justice Clarence Thomas disclosed Thursday that Republican megadonor Harlan Crow paid for private jet trips for Thomas in 2022 to attend a speech in Texas and a vacation at Crow's luxurious New York estate, as ethics questions continue to rock the Supreme Court.

Newly released financial disclosure forms Thursday also amend prior reports to include information that had been "inadvertently omitted" from past forms including a real estate deal between Thomas and Crow back in 2014.

Thomas also disclosed Thursday that he had "inadvertently omitted" other information in past reports including a life insurance policy for his spouse, conservative activist Virginia Thomas that had a cash value under $100,000 and a bank account valued at under $70,000 in 2018.

Thanks Chief Justice Roberts, this Realllly cleans things up.

Are you confident that your personal threshold about what counts as illegal in your mind is pegged to whether or not the act gets prosecuted?

In any case, it's not simply *innuendo* and he's a SCOTUS justice with a lifetime appointment ffs. His behavior shouldn't just be an appearance above reproach, it should actually be above reproach.

It’s always Opus Dei, trying to undermine the 15th Amendment. Explains why Alabama is so defiant - they have been in back channel communications and think the fix is in. Hopefully exposure will stop the pka.

The Attorney General’s Office contract lists “Edmund LaCour, Solicitor General” as the attorney assigned to work with Consovoy McCarthy. LaCour is also a Federalist Society contributor and previously clerked for Eleventh Circuit Judge William Pryor, a close ally of Leo and Justice Thomas, and a vocal Federalist Society defender.

LaCour’s wife, Alice Shih LaCour, is also a Federalist Society contributor, and her Federalist Society profile notes that she “served on the confirmation teams [at the Justice Department] to “elevate Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.”

The LaCours also have been involved with Catholic far-right organizations with close affiliations to Leo. They are both in their 30s with law degrees from Yale.

Edmund and Alice LaCour were fellows with the Opus Dei-affiliated Leonine Forum, where Leo is a board member. They also have been involved with the Catholic Information Center, a hub for Opus Dei—a small, ultra-conservative and controversial Catholic community—in the nation’s capital and which has given Leo its highest award. Both LaCours gave tribute remarks at the Catholic Information Center’s John Paul II New Evangelization Award Ceremony in 2017.

Alabama- where civil rights go to be ignored. Keep on suing them Marc Elias - till they need pre-clearance again.

It seems the Supremes get decide what is ethical for themselves. What a deal.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/22/clarence-thomas-koch-network-donor-events

The conservative justice Clarence Thomas has attended at least two donor events organized by the Koch network, the ultra-right political organization founded by the libertarian billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which has brought multiple cases before the supreme court, according to the latest revelations by ProPublicaon the judge, his friends and financial disclosures.

In one case, the 75-year-old justice traveled to a weekend event in Palm Springs, California, in January 2018 on a private jet, which he never reported on his annual financial disclosure form, in an apparent violation of federal law requiring justices to report most gifts, according to ProPublica.

Thomas’s links with the Koch network are arguably more ethically dicey, given that the federal judiciary’s code of conduct specifically prohibits both political activity and participation in fundraising. Judges are advised not to “associate themselves” with any group “publicly identified with controversial legal, social or political positions”

As it stands, Thomas will be on the bench when the conservative super-majority supreme court hears a Koch-backed case that seeks to strip federal agencies of their power to make rules on the environment, labor rights and consumer protection among other issues. If the Koch network’s attorneys win the case, it would undo decades of legal precedent and have a profound impact on the health and safety of Americans’ lives – and the ability of the government to tackle the climate emergency.

    (4) Neither the filing of a brief amicus curiae nor the participation of counsel for amicus curiae requires a Justice’s disqualification.

    A Ginni exception.

Was going to read the rest but too time-consuming. Will wait for others. Pretty loose definitions in the bit I read
