Surely these lavish bankrolled trips and who knows what else are direct from the heart and love for the man.

How could you possibly think said billionaires would, even for one second, think some judicial favor could possibly be involved.

    Smdh

And we make fun of S American politics.

Justice Clarence Thomas has likely accepted millions in undisclosed luxury trips since he joined the Supreme Court in 1991, ProPublica estimates.

According to ProPublica's report, Thomas has accepted at least 38 other premium vacations that he did not previously disclose. Thomas accepted everything from a yacht trip around the Bahamas and a stay at a luxury resort in Jamaica to premium seats at college and professional sporting events.

The sheer level of what Thomas has accepted is staggering, a former federal judge responsible for financial disclosures told the outlet.

"In my career I don't remember ever seeing this degree of largesse given to anybody," Jeremy Fogel, a former federal judge who served on a committee that review judicial financial disclosures, told the non-profit news outlet. "I think it's unprecedented."

pos should be impeached and removed, but he won't be.
Love the complete absence of any accountability

    And it’s likely an undercount.

Serious question, are there tax crimes here for the gifter and for Thomas? Is the IRS obligated to investigate such undeclared but well documented gifts of value?

Don't know, but if so, it would never be prosecuted

    Gifts aren’t taxable.

But it stretches credulity that anyone would be so generous to a “friend”, who also do happens to be a political hack of a Supreme Court Justice. This is why govt officials aren’t allowed to take gifts, why even the President is supposed to hand gifts over to the national archives. Those anti-bribery standards should 100% apply to the members of the Supreme Court. Unfortunately as of now, they do not, and I’m not sure there is any crime. Just a disgraceful lack of ethics and integrity from the “highest court”

Weren’t there some shenanigans with how the “gifts” were structured? Through shell corporations and whatnot? That might be more questionable legality on the givers end than Thomas, but I recall it sounded quite shady.

At the least, the yacht that Thomas cruised on was “owned” by a corporation controlled by Crow that charged Crow for its use, allowing him to pay himself.

My understanding is that gifts are taxable (above a certain threshold), but the donor pays the taxes, not the donee.

Generally, gifts are not taxable income to the donee for income tax purposes but are subject to gift taxes that could be owed by the donor depending on his remaining gift tax exemption.

This is true, but compensation disguised as gifts are taxable income. That being said, the IRS almost certainly would not prevail against Clarence Thomas, if it asserted that these gifts were compensation. That is despite the likelihood that these gifts would not have been made to Clarence Thomas if he had not become a US Supreme Court Justice.

    Drip. Drip. Drip.

And this is the guy who claims Ginni and he are simple people who like to sleep in their camper in WalMart parking lots? What a crock of absolute bullshit. He just forgot to mention the camper was $250,000 and paid for by someone else.

Partisan judicial beliefs aside, he’s just another shameless grifter who has ascended the highest level of government. Whatever happened to the notion that the appearance of impropriety is impropriety? Justice Thomas must’ve missed that day at law school. How disgusting.
