We were only playing whack-a-mole all over the country because we stupidly didn't test or quarantine people coming into the country from known hotspots. We had HHS people doing meet and greets without any protective equipment and without any warnings to those returning home.

Their outbreak from the church started with patient 31. And even a month after that, because they were testing and quarantining, half their cases are still from that one cluster. If we had been proactive when half of our cases were in Washington, maybe we would be able to say that half of our cases were still in Washington. They took it seriously and shut it down, we didn't and it is shutting us down.

If you are right, that would be good news. The oxford University model posits that this is correct.

If you are right, it would mean coming out of this earlier.

Where I live, there are major international events in November and December.

As I have said, I believe I had this, with an onset of symptoms January 13. I know I did not have the flu (tested negative) or a cold. Of course, I do not know.

i would love to have antibody testing.

Edit: They are looking at this in Italy.
Italian scientists investigate possible earlier emergence of coronavirus

Adriano Decarli, an epidemiologist and medical statistics professor at the University of Milan, said there had been a “significant” increase in the number of people hospitalized for pneumonia and flu in the areas of Milan and Lodi between October and December last year.

He told Reuters he could not give exact figures but “hundreds” more people than usual had been taken to hospital in the last three months of 2019 in those areas - two of Lombardy’s worst hit cities - with pneumonia and flu-like symptoms, and some of those had died.

Decarli is reviewing the hospital records and other clinical details of those cases, including people who later died at home, to try to understand whether the new coronavirus epidemic had already spread to Italy back then.

“We want to know if the virus was already here in Italy at the end of 2019, and - if yes - why it remained undetected for a relatively long period so that we could have a clearer picture in case we have to face a second wave of the epidemic,” he said.

Edit: Remember that Edward Aschoff developed a mysterious pneumonia that in combination with undiagnosed cancer, killed him.

Anecdotal. But, i would like to see the stats.

this didn't age well. Damn shame, I was hoping against hope it would be nothing more than a cold. Can't recall the last time hospitals were overwhelmed and makeshift morgues were being set up from the flu, let alone a cold.

I just wonder if those that were defending the lack of a response early on will continue to opine that they were right all along in the face of overwhelming evidence to the opposite.

I only wish I would have paid better attention and divested my retirement before the crash

And it would be worse going forward if it was not for social distancing measures. Interesting to go through the threads and follow the ever changing opinions of the right wing to the scope and risk of the disease and the overarching efforts to protect Trump.

They attack us as wanting deaths to vindicate what we have been saying, but never acknowledge that their non-science and data based driven comments were not only wrong, but enabled this lying incompetent President. Nobody wants this; but it was inevitable and would have been worse if the mayors and governors had listened to them.

The bold part is the problem with many of our citizens. They can’t see past right/left, Republican/Democrat, Conservative/Liberal. I mean was there really a reason to type that?

Maybe we can attempt to let go of the hate for a few months while we all work together as Americans to solve this.

It’s both sides and I’m telling you some of y’all acting this way are just about pathetic.

Yes, there was a reason to post that.

And I will tell you why. I am not addressing the conservative posters here who acknowledge the problem.

To understand what I am saying, I suggest you read the entire United States thread and the thread on Trump opening up the country.

There are right wing posters here who have repeatedly attempted to parrot fringe right wing media and repeatedly attempted to minimize the problem.

They have been going from one false narrative to the next, changing the narrative as the problem got worse, and so their narratives need to be addressed.

Those are the posters I am mentioning. Not you. Or @gatorpika or others.
