793 deaths in Italy today. If a similar proportion of Americans were to die, it would be almost 4300 deaths in one day.

Italy: Virologist says fears of racism slowed Italy's coronavirus response; Florence Mayor urged Italians to "hug a Chinese"
Italy: Virologist says fears of racism slowed Italy's coronavirus response; Florence Mayor urged Italians to "hug a Chinese"

Dr. Giorgio Palù is a Professor of Virology and Microbiology at the University of Padova, and he was formerly the President of the European and Italian Society for Virology. In an interview with CNN, he said that the reason the disease has struck Italy so fiercely is because the government delayed imposing travel restrictions on people coming from China until it was too late. He said the country’s response was “lazy in the beginning” because of “too much politics.”

“There was a proposal to isolate people coming from the epicenter, coming from China,” Palù told CNN. “Then it became seen as racist, but they were people coming from the outbreak.”.....

The shortsightedness of Italy’s government regarding the virus as a result of political correctness has not been limited to the national government. Dario Nardella, the Mayor of Florence, who is from the Left-wing Democratic Party, was urging Italians to “hug a Chinese” in early February out of concerns that coronavirus fears were leading to racism against the Chinese. Nardella even tweeted a video of himself hugging a Chinese man.

    -----------------------------------

I will say once this took off there like crazy the biggest issue is one apparently they have had with a big flu outbreak in the past and never dealt with - a really low ICU capacity in their medical system per capita or that is what is being said anyway. Still I cant think of anything crazier than that Mayor telling people to hug the returning Chinese from that Wuhan area that live and work in Italy knowing what was going on there in China. Also they did do a flight ban but those Chinese residents just crossed in from other Euro countries on their way back. Crazy stuff...

'Trump Is Right About the Coronavirus. The WHO Is Wrong,' Says Israeli Expert

Ignoring that our age distribution doesn't match Israel's, by his math we can expect somewhere around 450,000 fatalities in the US. If we use South Korea's age distribution that is somewhere around 750,000 fatalities. Israel is one of the youngest countries, South Korea is one of the oldest, so if his math is correct, somewhere between 450,000 and 750,000 fatalities. And this is what he is holding up as reason for optimism.

These smaller countries are quickly surpassing us in fatalities.
(On the flip side, how do we only have 147 recoveries?) o_O

USA has only 308 deaths with 25,471 cases.
The UK has 234 deaths with only 5027 cases.
France has 562 deaths with only 14,459 cases.

Italy has 4825 deaths with 53,579 cases.
Spain has 1381 deaths with 25,496 cases.
Iran has 1556 deaths with 20,610 cases.

While the disciplined Germans have just 84 deaths with 22,364 cases.

The analysis is why you slow down the exponential growth until there is herd immunity. Because the slower it spreads, if you get to the curve faster, it creates pressure on the health care system.

This is what I was explaining to my son, it's the exponential growth that we are trying to avoid.

Ecuador coronavirus cases increase by over 400 in less than a week, health minister quits

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuador’s health and labor ministers resigned on Saturday, just hours after officials announced the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus had shot up to over 500 in the country. The government declared a state of emergency on Monday, prohibiting travelers from entering and imposing a night-time curfew along with other measures to restrict internal movement in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.

Yeh, there’s a substantial difference between racism and reasonable behaviors based upon rational, logical discernment. The hyper-PC crowd really needs to understand that difference.
