I didn’t think they cared that a member of the president’s coronavirus task force was spewing garbage and undermining the government’s messaging. Better late than never.

 

Not true, my best friend is an oncologist in Tampa and had a patient die with Stage 4 Liver Cancer but was Covid+ but didn't show outward signs of Covid. He listed Covid as an underlying cause because he wasn't sure if Covid hastened the death or not. He said most likely not but couldn't be sure either way.

It's a really interesting paper, thanks for sharing it. However, your conclusion (not the paper's) that Asian populations are immune because of evolutionary pressure on gene expression related to COV proteins is not a conclusion of the paper. The function of those genes and resistance to COV are unknown and are only statistical associations rather than causal links. Although some of the proteins represent drug discovery targets, they haven't been proven. Regarding the masks, if there were protective attributes of the amplified genes and a population lacked them, then it would make even more sense to take precautions such as mask wearing to prevent spread of infection.

 

But the largest RCT Mask Trial was just released and showed masks don’t work. Plus, there was an antibodies test in Japan that showed 47% of the people tested had Covid antibodies in their system and almost all were asymptotic. So obviously the virus was prevalent in some Asian countries but for whatever reason doesn’t affect them like it does the western world.

 

You really have to read the recent Denmark mask-wearing study carefully, which was a well-done clinical study (ACP Journals). They point out that the community at large where the participants lived was non-mask wearing, and comment that "The findings, however, should not be used to conclude that a recommendation for everyone to wear masks in the community would not be effective in reducing SARS-CoV-2 infections, because the trial did not test the role of masks in source control of SARS-CoV-2 infection." They also conclude the results were so variable that it could be either interpreted as providing a 46% reduction in infection to a 23% increase by wearing a mask.

In Japan, in a study of one large company in Tokyo there was a low fatality rate and with a prevalence of infection that suggested herd immunity occurred. The fatality rate was very low, and as they note, on par with Swedish teenagers, 0.0006%. Go figure.

CNN)Toronto, Canada's largest city, was placed into lockdown for 28 days on Friday, with officials shutting shops, businesses and restaurants and banning indoor gatherings to curb a growing spike in Covid-19 cases.

The lockdown will begin on Monday in the city and in Peel, a part of the Greater Toronto to the west of the city center.

 

I wouldn’t say this site has been right, as they keep taking up estimates but it’s definitely 10 plane crashes a day of deaths.

Pentagon struggles to contain coronavirus outbreaks

An infection in the Pentagon's top ranks, a fresh outbreak aboard a Navy ship and a record 1,300 new daily cases - all in one week.

The Defense Department, long one of the most effective federal agencies in containing the spread of the coronavirus among its people, is now grappling with a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country and globe.

The recent uptick in cases in the U.S. - more than 1 million over the past seven days - has military leaders scrambling to impose tougher restrictions on the thousands of personnel that work in the Pentagon.

"This week the Defense Department is concerned, just like the rest of the government that there will be a rise in cases and we're taking precautions to mitigate that," a defense spokesman told The Hill.
