Then the people wearing a mask would've had better results than the non mask wearers.

Not to be a pessimist, but could we count on folks who are less educated, less able, and less organized to comply? Imagine visiting a population of folks on the south side of Chicago and encouraging them to "read the label carefully. Now open the package from the . . ." You'd get a whole lotta STFU. Then there's the "it's a hoax" crowd which still exists. IMO America is a non-compliant society with an abundance of ignorant people who suffer from unhealthy independence.

should save this somewhere so we don't have to type it again and again.

although there is some belief that low level exposure that may result by your mask limiting the amount of viral load you receive may provide a ticket to immunity without the risk of sever infection. learned that they used to expose people to low level loads of smallpox to inoculate them before a vaccine was developed. Variolation..a word previously not in my vocabulary..

    Variolation | medicine

infecting them with substance from the pustules of patients with a mild form of the disease (variola minor). The disease then usually occurs in a less-dangerous form than when contracted naturally. The method was popularized in England in 1721–22 by Lady Mary Wortley Montagu; it has long been known by the Turks, Chinese, and other peoples. In America, Cotton Mather learned of its use in Africa from his slave, Onesimus, who himself had been inoculated. Its use spread in America after 1721, and in 1728 it was introduced into South America. Variolation continued to be opposed by some religious groups and most physicians, who were not convinced of the safety of the method. It was supplanted by vaccination after 1798. In 1842 an act of Parliament in England made the practice of variolation a felony in that country

I was thinking the exact same thing. There are too many people who buy into nonsense, don't ever want to be told they have to do anything, or just wouldn't conform for other reasons. Thing is, it's a lot of college educated, able folk that would be among them, as we've seen.

I also don't see how we could scale up this type of testing quickly considering we haven't been able to yet due to lack of leadership/effort, so at the very least, we'd be looking at at least February. That said, I like the idea as it incorporates moving *somewhat* toward what some other countries have been doing, though I'm not sure any have been doing the rapid testing at the scale Mina suggests.

For those who missed the CDC's new belief that the mask protects the WEARER...
    Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
Source Control to Block Exhaled Virus
Multi-layer cloth masks block release of exhaled respiratory particles into the environment,3-6 along with the microorganisms these particles carry.7,8 Cloth masks not only effectively block most large droplets (i.e., 20-30 microns and larger)9 but they can also block the exhalation of fine droplets and particles (also often referred to as aerosols) smaller than 10 microns ;3,5 which increase in number with the volume of speech10-12 and specific types of phonation.13 Multi-layer cloth masks can both block up to 50-70% of these fine droplets and particles3,14 and limit the forward spread of those that are not captured.5,6,15,16 Upwards of 80% blockage has been achieved in human experiments that have measured blocking of all respiratory droplets,4 with cloth masks in some studies performing on par with surgical masks as barriers for source control.3,9,14

FWIW, county sheriffs in new york are refusing to enforce cuomo's thanksgiving edicts, people in california in a uproar over newsom's dinner party and state legislatures going to hawaii to avoid attendence mandates, more democratic do as i say, not as we do bs.

This seems contradictory to the Danish study which at this time I believe is the largest RCT mask study out there. If what the CDC says is true we nor Europe would have the numbers we have.

And I agree with you guys that if governors are setting recommendations for Thanksgiving gatherings and are then ignoring them, they are hypocrites and deserve criticism.

To be fair, I think a lot of governors are just making the restrictions to placate the crazies. Not that it makes it any better, but I think they know it's a bunch of bs, for the most part.
