The data we would need would have to capture how adherent people are to wearing masks and other mitigation measures. The US & Europe's numbers might reflect poor adherence to mitigation measures or some combination of poor adherence and not enough measures, not necessarily masks not working. In fact, masks might be helping to suppress the trend in new cases that we are now experiencing. But masks are only one element among many mitigation measures so drawing any hard conclusion would need to account for all of these things first.

Attention. Attention. All THFSG posters. Do NOT get information on how to protect yourself from posters on a message board, our current potus, or some nut blogging from his basement. Listen to doctors and scientists who spend their lives analyzing this data. follow the math, facts and statistics. Not infowars, etc. covid is NOT a hoax. Be smart. Be safe.
    That is all.

I find it hard to believe that the WHO isn’t following proper protocols. So the only logical explanation is that masks don’t do a good job protecting us from Covid(unless it’s an N95 mask). I’m not saying don’t wear masks. I’m saying I don’t think they work nearly as well as people think.

What a foolish comment. You really have no idea what you are talking about. Many of those countries are just as "free" as the U.S. except maybe for the gun issue (yee haw!). The true difference lies not in government rule, but in cultural discipline. They have more experience dealing with pandemics and are simply more willing to do what's necessary to rid themselves of it. They are able to put aside personal pride and ego for the benefit of the collective.

Thing is there are other countries that have far fewer cases but a culture of mask wearing. For instance Japan and South Korea where mask-wearing is culturally embedded going back at half century or more have far fewer cases and deaths. But even these counter examples don't provide sufficient evidence because we would still need to determine the effects of other mitigation factors and adherence to these measure

for the upteenth million time it has been proven that covid was brought into the nursing homes by staff. staff that were infected in the community because people were either misinformed or too damn inconsiderate to follow masking and safe distancing

lets see, cuomo gave the order to move infected into nursing homes, and cuomo came up with the fact that the staffs , not the moved in infected people caused the deaths, cover your ass 101

Cuomo didn't do the studies. give it up already, you're wrong about this too. covid caused the deaths, covid brought into the facilities by people infected in the neighborhoods because Trump ordered everybody home with no plan on how to handle them and no ability to test them

The meme is communicating trump's indifference and neglect in handling the disease. It's obvious. Your knee jerk whataboutism in defense of trump is both ignoble and nauseating (ignauseating?)

why compare the US to Japan and South Korea. We don’t know if the Asian countries are more naturally immune to Covid than Europe and the US. Compare the US to Europe. That is the prudent comparison. And the virus unfortunately is going to run its course until the vaccine is widely available.

you are going to actually deny the fact that the state of new york gave orders to remove covid patients from hospitals and move them into nursing homes and assisted living facilities, you are delusional.

no. that happened. and it happened because the system was being overwhelmed due to lack of testing and information withheld by feds about just how easily the virus spread through the air. but they didn't move them into the general population and the spread wasn't from infected patients it was from infected personnel that got infected due to lack of PPE and the amount of virus in the community. I get it that you are so entrenched in your position that you will never be able to open your mind to the thought that you are wrong but you are. Facilities had to document that they had capacity to isolate the covid patients before they could take them back. The order required to them to take them provided that they could safely isolate and treat them. There were conditions but you just refuse to acknowledge them. Seems like you ahve something personal against Cuomo they way you stick to your false narrative

There is no pre-existing natural immunity because it's a novel animal virus. We're not even sure yet sure what immune protection those who have gotten covid will have down the road. Japan and South Korea provide very good counter examples because we're talking measures, behavior, and community spread, not immune system responses. Like I said though, the counter examples aren't sufficient because we still need to determine adherence to mask wearing and other mitigation measures in the aggregate if we really want to know.

    this just defies belief
1 million new infections in a week and 2 million this month alone. the cognitive disconnect required to refuse to mask up and socially distance is unreal..and then you have people being weaned off a ventilator still trying to claim it is all a hoax. wtf?

Hospitals overrun as U.S. reports 1 million COVID cases in a week

"We're tired. Mentally, physically, emotionally exhausted," said nurse Nate Smithson, who works at Intermountain Medical Center — Utah's largest hospital. For some patients there, the cold COVID-19 reality still isn't real.

"They deny it. Their family members deny it," said Smithson.

Janine Roberts is also a nurse at the same hospital. She told CBS News, "We have these patients who literally are on life support. We're working super hard to get them better, finally helping them to wake up, and then the first thing they're trying to communicate is that it's all a hoax."

Every single first world country must be treating their leaders the same then. Hey let’s throw everyone into lockdown for 6 weeks just to come out and see a large uptick in cases again. Oh sounds silly? Ok let’s force mask mandates. Oh wait can you explain how at least 5 states have been under a strict mask mandate for over 100 days but yet are still experiencing a spike in cases?

It’s a damn virus and we are just humans who clearly are not as medically advanced as everyone thought. Good news though, by far the majority of the population has a 99.9% survival rate with more than 80% of those getting it very mild. Even better news, we know exactly who needs to stay isolated!

You're just making it up as you go along. Again, with the mask business. I'm still waiting to see all these imaginary people walking around without masks on. Haven't bumped into them yet. The CDC tells us most people who test positive report wearing their masks consistently. If we're being honest, scientists and doctors don't know how over half of the positives are getting the virus. They have no clue. Thousands of healthcare workers have contracted the virus with all the PPE a person could ever want at their disposal.

You are making assumptions and passing them off as fact. If I had to guess, I would venture to say the strand of the virus running rampant here and in Western Europe is a mutation from what they saw in Asia. It's a scientific fact that viruses are constantly mutating. In France, they had cases down to 300 a day and it exploded out of no where. That sounds like a mutated virus to me. The French didn't all the sudden ditch their masks and experience a 7000% increase in daily cases overnight. But that is just my guess. I do not pretend to have all the answers.

Stop politicizing. Stop playing games with the virus. It's a virus. It spreads and it's highly contagious. Everybody mocked President Trump when he talked about a vaccine in less than a year. Now the Biden folks are begging him for the distribution details. Seriously, take a hike with the BS.
