Even without the Flu season it was going to be ugly with the 3rd peak coming. The baseline leading up to the 3rd peak is quite a bit higher than it was leading up to the second peak.

As we rocket towards 100k new cases a day by election day, hopefully the buffoon's "COVID is rounding the corner" BS will fall on a few more deaf ears.

 

France tops 40,000 new cases two days in a row. Again, that would be like us having 200,000 new cases two days back to back. France had the daily new case count down in the 300's back in the summer. That would be like us having new cases in the 1500's. What can we deduce from this?

Even if Trump ordered martial law, had the Army force EVERYBODY into their homes and welded our doors and windows shut, shut down ALL our borders and ports, made everyone wear an N95 mask while imprisoned inside their homes... even if we did ALL of that for 30 days straight, we would STILL have Coronavirus problems.

Why do you think we've not yet banned travel to and fro Europe? Because there is no point. It's out and it was never going to be contained. Sure, we may be slowing it down some by wearing masks. And sure, the shut down slowed it down some. The shut down also costs our country trillions of dollars and is still going to cost our country trillions more.

STOP. THE. INSANITY.

Just STOP!!! All you are doing is allowing the government have more control over you, while watching your futures go up in smoke. We are not going to contain this virus. We never were. Stop freaking out and stop blaming Trump for it. It's a virus. It spreads. It mutates. That's what viruses tend to do.

Can the WSJ news and opinion pages be more polar opposite?

 

The number of people that think we had a real shutdown is amazing.
We had a half-assed piecemeal inconvenience. Leadership at the top downplayed the seriousness, producing virulent anti-maskers and people who still think it's a hoax no matter how many 100s of thousands die. Only real leadership came from sports leagues, local and state officials and private entities taking action and following scientific protocols to mitigate the spread.

By February everybody should have been told the seriousness of the virus and been told that masks will be an integral part of daily life for probably at least the next couple of years. Hope for a vaccine, but no guarantees. And realistic timelines for a vaccine following the safety protocols.
A stigma should have been created for NOT wearing a mask, not for wearing one.
People needed to know this was going to be the new normal until we got through this.
We would need everybody doing their best following the protocols in order to retain as much normalcy in our lives as possible.
We pretty much got the exact opposite.

 

That was one of Trump's greatest disservices to this country and causes him to be directly responsible for tens of thousands of American deaths....politicizing mask wearing. It enabled these ignorant anti-maskers and turned masks into the very symbol of Trump vs. the world. For his own selfish political reasons he had to minimize the seriousness of the pandemic and that goal was not served by pictures and videos of people wearing masks everywhere. Science be damned, he wanted to make it look like everything was completely under control. Sadly for America, he had a huge chunk of MAGA Nation ready to assist him. The ironic thing is his refusal to listen to the experts when it was determined mask wearing should be required will lead to his downfall and a very ugly place in history.

The mods here should follow the lead of Facebook and either delete the anti-mask posts or at least edit them to include a warning that their content is medically incorrect with links to the appropriate studies. This ignorance should not be allowed to run here unabated.

 

Here is how I ‘gut check’ that study. The difference in our death rate and Canada’s produces about 140,000 more dead Americans. Anyone who thinks our national response isn’t the cause of tens of thousands of needlessly dead Americans is willfully ignorant.

You can't spin this; it is literally spin-proof... the numbers are what they are, and here come the (predictable) strains on the hospital systems .. again.

 

Get a hold of yourself. We know you are fearful because you can't control the reaction you want in the majority of people. It's very unbecoming and sad to see.

Yep, masks aren't the panacea cure all for covid. Shut it down forever people's futures aren't in jeopardy and Europe's cases going up also I guess is somehow trump's fault.

 

You do realize that wearing a mask, socially distancing and using your head means that you can go about your business in an intelligent way.

No need to hide in your basement or whatever other ignorant euphemism Trumpers love to spout.

 

I'm retired and do a little side hustle, so self quarantining is no big deal for me. Plus Domino's delivers. That said, if this happened 20 years ago their might be some problems. Folks handle this as best as you can and care about your friends and neighbors.

Fox News has nothing on its top stories about the pandemic. Seems irresponsible since it is spiking and folks should be careful. Maybe their viewers aren’t obese, young, and are good about wearing masks.
