first full day in Norway we were scheduled to go hike Kjeragbolten but it was pouring in the am so we slept in when hike was cancelled by guide service we had booked. pic of Kjeragbolten below from google search. We decided to take ferry up to head of Fjord and wife decided she wanted to do the Florli 4444. Basically a staircase with 4444 steps taht runs parallel to a water pipe going up a hill. I decided to stay on the ferry and drink beer with my new German friend and pick up the wife on the way back. She got her T-shirt and bragging rights, I got to see an awesome rainbow at the end of the fjord.

Never been to Maine, but I bet it's beautiful. Are the two Maines coastal and rural? Or something like that?

 

No. that one is still on the bucket list. We got rained out as the trail is not one to be hiked when slippery. Tomorrow I will post some pics from the one we did get to do, Pulpit Rock. We took the "off the beaten trail" package where you canoe across a lake and then hike, climb, scramble up some old goat trails to get up over the top of pulpit rock and then hike down to it. There is a much easier path directly from the parkin lot but not nearly as scenic

Guided Preikestolen Hike “Off the Beaten Track”
First, you’ll glide in a canoe across the peaceful Refsvatn Lake, which will take approximately 45-minutes. Once you have your feet back on dry land, you’ll begin the hiking portion of the tour. During 70% of the hike, you’ll follow a backcountry, unmarked trail that is overgrown and has mostly been forgotten. Other than by Outdoorlife Norway’s guides, the trail is rarely used, and the cairns that lead the way through its dense forests are difficult to locate. Once you hike above the tree-line, the trail ceases to exist all together. The remaining 30% of the hike is therefore comprised of off-trail hiking & scrambling. During this portion of the hike, you’ll experience out-of-this-world and rarely-seen views of Preikestolen and the Lysefjord. Along the way, your guide will find a comfortable spot to take a lunch break.

After lunch and approximately 3,5 hours on foot, you’ll reach a location that offers panoramic views of Preikestolen that the majority of people only get to see in tourist brochures. After a short break to ensure you’re able to capture great photos of the Pulpit Rock, you’ll hike down to Preikestolen and experience standing atop the impressive plateau, which towers 604 meters above sea level. There, you’ll get to view the 1000 meter-high mountain walls surrounding the 42-kilometer-long Lysefjord from a new perspective. After the break, you’ll begin the long descent back to civilization, which will take approximately 2 hours. Your guide will lead you back to your starting point by following the main trail. Along the way, you’ll walk on paths that have were paved, using locally-sourced stones, by Nepalese Sherpas.

 

That poster gave a c’mon man to a poster who discussed the circumstances of his father dying. And then called the story BS. That is what started this exchange. She's all about the outdoors. Loves the park, the trail, the lake, etc. At two and a half, she's still getting the hang of things.
