They absolutely help when utilized fully. Unfortunately, we can't get big amounts of the country to wear a mask when in public nor can we get people to recognize that many environments, including schools/universities, can't be distanced in practice.

Some possibly good news here if true. First story of credibility I have read of likelihood of immunity from previous exposures to other coronaviruses. Perhaps explains why some have minor problems while others have major problems. It does reiterate that the duration of immunity from infection is still unknown due to the relatively short time we have had to study the virus

Immunity studies offer hope about Covid-19 recovery

A recent batch of studies, many early stage and not yet peer reviewed, show that humans have a "robust" immune response to Covid-19 that may protect them from further infection, even if they had mild symptoms. How long that protection lasts is still unclear, but the studies indicate it could last for months.

    …………………..………………………………………………..
"This is an accumulation of more information that allows people to become more comfortable with the idea that we are going to have immunity that's going to be longer in duration," Lipkin told CNN. "We don't know that for a fact, but there are a few things that are interesting that gave me a basis for optimism."

One of the studies showed that T cells appear to be activated by this novel coronavirus. T cells are important immune cells that stimulate various arms of the immune system and that also attack and kill cells already infected by a virus.

Another study that looked at donor blood samples found that a big part of the population, between 20% to 50% of people in some areas of the US, may have T cells that recognize the novel coronavirus, even if that person has never been infected. It's still unclear why people have them. It may be what's called cross-protection from other coronaviruses that cause the common cold. What scientists still don't know is if this provides protection against Covid-19, but it has potential.

Sure. If somebody chops off two toes last week and only one this week, that is a good trend too. Hopefully, schools will do like UNC and pull the plug before the cases get into the thousands on campus.

I dont like the use of cant in general terms. Difficult, yes but not impossible. If we can get everyone to buy in.

But that is a downward trend, right?

It does, if people actually follow the rules. The challenge is getting all people to follow the rules. Little Johnny doesn't, is asym, infects other kids on travel league bball team who all infect their families. Partial compliance will only lead to partial improvement.

Hard to tell. Less people getting tested due to long lines and extended times to get test results. Perhaps that is why, perhaps it is more people masking up and separating. Administration advocated for less testing to find less cases and then took control of data so the numbers appear to be somewhat suspect.

A toe isn’t 20% of your body. Terrible analogy. Maybe cut off your arm is a good example. See, now we are making progress.

True, I went with a 50% decrease in a week. That isn't the right analogy. We went from 5 toes being chopped off to only 4 this week. Now it is a 20% decrease. Thanks for the help.

Well, you can't rebuild schools to allow distancing in the short term nor staff them in a manner to make that possible. I will agree that "can't" is too strong on masks. "Haven't yet" is appropriate.

Very true. Sports outside of schools has been happening ever since the outbreak and I think most organizers parents and participants haven’t considered the long term impacts on actual school sponsored participation.

A combined online/in person component is what our district is going with. Distancing is achievable.

let alone the likelihood that they are carrying the infection back to their communities and possibly even exposing people at risk that they care about to infection

Colleges that are opening are almost all in that hyflex model. It apparently didn't work at UNC. I doubt that was because distancing itself didn't work.

I think it was their intention to give the illusion that having kids come back was fine for monetary reasons. Then throw their hands up and say, ‘see we tried’. No refund!

I know you all are eagerly awaiting the daily update from world o meter as of 8 am EDT. There were 18 states with a decrease in active cases. There were 7 states with 1-2 deaths and 16 states with 0 deaths yesterday.

Think this is telling. The media thrives on scaring people, whether it's a storm, protests, who is President and now the Coronavirus. This is a very serious virus to anyone over 55. I think this is a major issue with our media on both sides of the aisle.
