New info on viruses from the President. Apparently the Spanish Flu ended WWII in 1917 because all the soldiers got sick. o_O I remember when it happened. People in all 57 states were celebrating the end of WWII.

Comparing CNN to urine is actually being very generous to them!

Updated stats from world o meter as of 9 am EDT. There were 19 states with a decrease in active cases. There were 10 states with just 1-2 deaths and 13 states with 0 deaths.

This is the first time I have noticed this but I'm sure it probably happened before but there are fewer active cases today than yesterday.

The death rate per reported case continues its slow and steady decrease. It has dropped or stayed the same 81 of the last 82 days.

Did I say anything about lessening the affects of Covid? All of those symptoms occur as symptoms for those with flu, we just don't hear about it. There's a really good reason why kidney failure occurs, it's nothing magical. It all has to do what Covid does to the lungs reducing the oxygen supply to vital organs, such as the kidneys or the liver. Let me ask you this, why do a large portion of people who die from influenza died from sepsis? Not fever, not fluid in the lungs, but from sepsis. It's because their oxygen intake reduces to such a level that all of the organs no longer can function and they shutdown. Those that recover, have permanent damage to their kidneys, heart, liver, lungs, even their brain. Sound familiar?

Strokes are nothing new to respiratory diseases like Covid. They also occur with those who had flu or other similar diseases.

Don’t have a link because I just heard it on the radio, but 866 players and coaches now have tested positive for Covid since the start of HS sports which I believe started at the beginning of July here in Ga. Now, this has been from summer practices, most of which have been outdoors. Put those kids in a classroom, then have them travel and play a different HS on Friday nights. How can anyone argue that this is a good idea?

You should probably look stuff up before you post. Do a quick search for "children suspected covid" and you'll see that term used by multiple medical sources. CDC, Mayo, etc ...

Think this should clear up anyone claiming NY did a good job with their elderly Covid patients from nursing homes.

That is as dumb as Florida not counting someone from another state dying from Covid in Florida if they are from another state. Lets use common sense people.

G8trGr8t, sorry about my rant. It's just that working in a hospital network sucks sometimes with all of the data getting sent to my inbox because my email address is on the network. When COVID first came out I didn't understand why I was getting all these PPE-related emails on procedures until one of our doctors said that they send that out to all of the staff and I can ignore it. Fascinating stuff and what I used to post here. Long before remdesivir was in the headlines, UAB was already testing it along with dexamethasone and hydroxychloroquine. They also were making their own masks before they became a big deal.

So this article came across just now that UAB has been researching for a while:

Coronavirus: Previous vaccines and masks may hold down Covid-19, some researchers say - CNN

So maybe getting my flu vaccine every year may have been a good idea after all. Very interesting for sure.

There's also other research that suggests people who have a BMI 30+ will get no protection from a vaccine.

Covid isn't a respiratory disease, it is a vascular disease. It also happens to cause many of the same problems as respiratory diseases, largely because it is spread through aerosols and droplets and enters the body through the respiratory system, but it is also a vascular disease which is why it does so much more damage to the rest of the body than something like a flu. It isn't indirectly damaging the rest of the body by reducing lung function, it is actually directly attacking the rest of the body.

The 1917 pandemic ended WW2? And here I thought it was dropping atomic bombs on Japan that brought the war to an end.

You’re wrong. WWII ended 32 years earlier than the bomb was dropped due to the flu.:)

Curious that they refer to the neck wear as "fleece." I have not, personally, seen any made of "fleece" that people use for compliance. I'd be curious to know the evaluations of these items more specifically. We have a wide variety at home, and some are more breathable than others. Most are some cotton blend. No clue thread counts or anything like that. The other thing noted in that article is that the increase was referenced for folks when "speaking," how do the measures compare when just exhaling? That kind of stuff matters because mostly when we are in public indoors around strangers, we are not speaking to each other.

Me and mine quit wearing neck gaiters when I read that. Easier than masks as I can keep it on around neck but I'll go with the science and save them for fishing instead of sunblock

I’m not sure it’s ever ended a war but I’ve heard it’s very effective at ending hurricanes.

I’ve seen some people wear those while doing interviews and you can literally see their mouth moving through the fabric, that’s probably a sign the fabric isn’t great for the virus lol.

I assume it’s in the 10% category offering minimal protection, not sure I buy that it could be a net negative, unless people behave like they think it offers the same level was an n95 mask.

There have been studies. Cotton, and multi layered cotton at that is the winner. Polyester is pretty much useless, though a lot of these comfort masks have compartments for filter material which really does help. It is not the same as an N95 mask regardless of what they say, but it helps.
