"Consider" is not a synonym for "agree to." I consider all points, almost to a fault. I reject many after consideration.

You couldn't be more incorrect with this statement if you tried.

I am not against Harleys or motorcycles, but riding a bike is not only a potential risk to the rider. It presents several challenges, risks and and potential dangers to other motorists as well.

Can you provide a specific risk to the life or health of other drivers that is increased by somebody else driving a motorcycle compared to some other vehicle?

Yes, but all those risks are made possible by the rider; he can avoid them all by not getting on the bike in the 1st place.

Dueling death rates sounds like an awful game you don't want to win.

Oh, please do not take me wrong. I have not compared this to the modern flu ever. My only point was that many virus and bacterial infections become that make 35 year olds sick, are death sentences for the 80+ crowd.

Though, even the flu, as a respiratory disease, is worse than the normal in the elderly population. According to the CDC, 70-85% of all flu deaths are from people 65+ (not to be confused with mortality rates). Just saying, the more compromised we all become later in life, the deadlier everything is. SARS-CoV-2 is much, much worse because of the complicating factors of virtually no treatment courses when this thing first broke out, and even now no "silver bullet" to rapidly treat people with.

My post was in response to mdgator. Thank you agreeing with me that a motorcyclist poses a certain level of risk to others around him/her. But that doesn't mean I think we should ban motorcycles. The point is there are lots of things that people do every day that pose risk to others around them. I suppose we could ban everything that has any risk tied to it, but life would suck hard if we did that. Shutting everything down or forcing people to shelter in place is untenable at this point for something that poses a 0.05% risk of death to healthy Americans. Sure, you could make emotionally based arguments for its usefulness, but the big picture screams massive overreaction, as would be the case if they ever banned motorcycles.

The thing is, you're talking about banning things permanently; none of these restrictions or measures is permanent... all we have to do is quit shooting ourselves in the foot and follow some pretty simple guidelines for 6 months. We might even actually have some sports if folks would just do the simple things.

For many small businesses, the banning is permanent when they go out of business. For the hundreds of thousands suffering from mental illness due to the quarantine, the ban feels permanent. And while it may not be forever, we will all be paying for this for a very long time.

So, we are back to the same tiresome arguments made at the beginning of this. We can’t shut down. We can’t shut down now. We need to double down on our ignorant and stupid response. In other counties, they shut down, took the hit so they could reopen robustly. Not here. We are driven by the stupid. Overrun hospitals, community spread. Business going tour of business because nobody with a brain wants to be indoors with others, particularly not wearing masks. Travel to the US shut down. Tourism down. And we are theoretically open. We could not afford to not shut down and reopen correctly. But the stupid drove policy and still do. When do any of you think it is going to get better the way it is now?

This is what happens when you have a plan of action and everyone is on the same page. Looks like those woke libs in the NBA know what they’re doing.

They don’t want to do those simple things even temporarily because they feel like they’ll be “giving in to the libs.” That’s what all their delusional thinking comes down to, doing the exact opposite of what the other side wants.

Their stubborn arrogance, ignorance and foolish pride is going to cost the country more in the long run than a complete 6 to 8-month shutdown would have.

'They didn't run the plays': Ex-officials say Trump administration didn't use pandemic 'playbooks'

A short article on the risk of pandemic, preparation and science in dealing with it, developed in the Bush administration and used to perfection in the Obama administration. The playbook was further improved for the benefit of country and handed to this administration. This wasn't difficult and the enormous cost to lives and economy by not following the playbook were preventable. Here we are though with many in the party trying to protect the POTUS by further denying the science or worse engaging crazy fringes 'very impressed with her'. Where does the line get drawn on loyalty to party?

Thank God we have good strong, conservative governors like Gavin Newsom who refuse to “give in to the libs.”
