Coronavirus in the United States - news and thoughts

This is key. It takes nothing to encourage personal responsibility and respect for your fellow Americans. You know, the kind of things conservatives should emphasize. But no, they have turned this crisis into a political football.

We as a country are failing this test and the Dr. Strangelove "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Corona" Schtick is getting tiresomely deadly.

 

Why wait??

 

Well as someone who is closer to 65 than 45, I consider myself a "young adult". So, there is one.

 

47,224 new cases today. Damn, son.

 

FFS, the death numbers lag new case numbers by 3 to 4 weeks. Come talk to us when 2,000+ are dying every day in a couple of weeks.

 

I’m happy the death count hasn’t taken off with the case count. But, if anyone isn’t concerned about that lagging indicator jumping, you are probably not paying attention.

Hospitalizations follow case counts and deaths follow hospitalizations. We are hearing a lot of reports about ICU beds filling up. The next step is coming.

Why won’t our leadership start banging the drum loudly for masks? The bully pulpit is free. Pence wouldn’t even honestly address why they won’t get rally goers to wear masks. He went into a Bill of Rights speech.

The failure to lead is leading to more dead citizens. It’s beyond frustrating.

normally I’d agree but the average age has dropped so much that the death rate will come down a lot. We have enough data from the past 5 months to make that determination.

 

My 20 year old niece has it. She lives with my 60 year old brother in law who has dialysis every day. The young getting infected isn’t a magic shield. Helpful yes. But 9,000 cases isn’t going to happen without some bad outcomes.

 

The younger have a significantly better chance of surviving than the elderly. They have enough data to know that. Yes more people will die. That sucks. No arguing that.

 

so florida with its aging population is, according to oklahomagators daily chart 28th in deaths per million, with less than 3% deaths per total cases, not bad for a sorry,worthless leader, unlike you know who in new york.

 

and if they do not come close to those numbers i am sure you will say you were wrong, right?

 

Plenty of positive news is welcome you just aren't going to find people jumping for joy when the infection rate is skyrocketing and there is a several week delay before people start dying. The number of people dying going down is great news, but I believe it will only be temporary. If we manage to get through July without the number of dead taking off I'll be right there pumping sunshine with you guys.

 

The CDC has been saying for months that the infections are likely to be 10x the actual number. So now that testing is ramped up and you g people are hitting bars all over, it’s definitely exploding. If/when NY/Nj open fully it will explode there also. Only good news is the lower the age of infected, the better chance for survival. That’s the only bright spot.

 

CDC are saying the actual number of active cases in the U.S. is around 20,000,000. If true, there’s absolutely no point in shutting down.

 

Our failed leadership has made shutting down almost pointless at this juncture. What a disgrace.

 

Things started looking pretty good until the recent explosion. Spike is no longer an apt word. Things have turned really bad. Here are the three day increases.

If these numbers are an indicator, world fatalities are way up. We've known about the explosion in U.S. cases, but fatalities are up at the level not seen since May. If ever there was a time for U.S. citizens to begin taking this catastrophe seriously, we're well past it.

 

If 20,000,000 have it, you might as well open everything back up 100%. That would be the death rate is much lower than we’ve been talking about. And you ain’t going to stop it when 1 in every 17 persons has it and 90% of those people don’t even know they have it. What a cluster.

 

how many are dying here that didn’t have to? It’s just sad.

 

There is almost no chance that 20,000,000 have it. That would mean 6.2% of the population has it. You would need to believe that our assigning of testing each day is basically random if that were the case. No way that is true.
