Yeah, when I "only" had broken my neck twice by my 40's, among other things, I was still a viable member of the workforce; add an additional major stroke at 50 and they finally considered me disabled.

Some thinking is stupid. For instance, the thinking that leads people to protest in the middle of an epidemic spread of a contagious virus is not simply a difference of opinion. It's foolish and not the actions of intelligent and responsible adults.

How would one prove they were infected at work and not elsewhere?

'We've been muzzled': CDC sources say White House putting politics ahead of science
By Robert Kuznia, Curt Devine and Nick Valencia, CNN
Updated 7:52 AM ET, Wed May 20, 2020

(CNN) In the early weeks of the US coronavirus outbreak, staff members in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had tracked a growing number of transmissions in Europe and elsewhere, and proposed a global advisory that would alert flyers to the dangers of air travel. But about a week passed before the alert was issued publicly -- crucial time lost when about 66,000 European travelers were streaming into American airports every day.

The delay, detailed in documents obtained by CNN, is the latest example to emerge of a growing sense of disconnect between the CDC and the White House. In interviews with CNN, CDC officials say their agency's efforts to mount a coordinated response to the Covid-19 pandemic have been hamstrung by a White House whose decisions are driven by politics rather than science.

It would be difficult to prove the origin, it all will be messy as hell and that was part of my point. We are a litigious country and, as stated by others, we are already seeing lawsuits.
If someone is generally isolating everywhere but ends up getting covid and other workers are testing positive, it may not be that difficult to prove to the standard of a lawsuit.

Yeah, they're getting pretty good at tracking; by the time a suit materialized a good attorney is going to have ample ammo at his disposal... they're going to have to make some kind of allowances or exceptions.

That's not stupid if you feel that strongly about it that is just your opinion. I personally wouldn't have done that but I don't think they're stupid for sticking up for what they believe.

So no opinion a person holds can be considered stupid so long as the person feels strongly about it?

I feel strongly that cigarettes are good for me. That's not stupid?

To borrow from one of the memes I posted on the humor thread, I might strongly believe in sticking a knife in an electrical socket, but it doesn't negate the stupidity of my doing it. Intelligent people don't take such a risk because they can reason intelligently about the consequences, not only for self but for others. And if they aren't dumb, then they are reckless and irresponsible and not well-informed, which is in many ways is the equivalent given the potential harmful consequences, again, not only for self but for others.

And by the way, this isn't a liberal perspective or at least it shouldn't be.

Wrong, I follow the rules but I fill it was completely ignorant to shut down the country. I consider it reckless what they've done.

Oh I see, so when I voice my opinion about a group of people it's considered a group insult but it's ok for you guys to say a particular group is ignorant if they don't have the same beliefs as you.

You're feelings about it being ignorant don't measure up to the rational and scientifically informed justifications leading to shutdowns and social distancing. Indeed, these decisions weren't made lightly and came with some predictable consequences, given the dire situation.

What would you have done? Nothing?

I'm also not sure what the other option is. We had this discussion with our bar because we had two employees uncomfortable with working to-go sales over the last two months. That's fine, and they still got pai

After clicking on your link my initial response would have been to tell you to go f yourself. However, I’ll instead ask if that was intended to be funny or serious? If it was meant to be funny, I don’t find my life and my family’s well being a laughing matter. I’m not in the stay shut down forever camp, I’m ok with relaxing restrictions as long as people can be respectful of each other. I didn’t find your post very respectful to me or my family.

if it was not a joke, and an actual recommendation, I’d say that’s pretty telling on the severity of the risks. considering you don’t believe in masks or the shut down, unless I’m thinking of the wrong person here, I doubt it was serious concern of yours...

We've already been over this there was no reason to shut the country down over this flu like virus, those who had underlying conditions or elderly or felt scared should have been the ones to stay home you don't ruin a country over this
