Honestly, from a military standpoint, his accomplishments are hard to argue against. In terms of "where he can't get anyone killed", how many servicemen/women have died under his leadership compared to his predecessors? And Betty White? Come on. Now we're just getting looney.

 

Spin it however you want, but it's not smart or efficient to keep entire states that are seeing 2 or fewer deaths each day from having a mostly normal functioning economy. And the hit is going to be much more severe if we keep the economy shut down, versus opening it.

 

Or when the virus is nearly extinct in August and they all conveniently forget the incessant mocking of Trump for opening up the economy again.

 

Oh okay, clearly you don't spend much time delving into the long term impacts of abandoning strategic positions like the Philippines and long time allies like NATO and all those other miscellaneous "Global Security Issues". Why have any kind of coherent strategy when maintaining world order? You can just look at the trend of deaths coming out of two major long time wars. Golly Gee!!! A decrease? WOW!!! Who'd of predicted that?

I'm sure that new Border wall will protect us from all that threatens our place in the world. Why have a cohesive plan when you can just rely on a "wing and a prayer"???

I don't have a problem with Trump . . . just that he's a narcissistic idiot who makes his important decisions based on what he hears from Hannity. Put him back on reality TV where he belongs and let him bask in the glow of his worshipers where he can't hurt anyone. If Trump was replaced with Mike Pence I'd feel a MILLION times better about our national security. Even if he had a global strategy that I didn't agree with . . . Pence would at least HAVE a strategy.

I do not think it will completely go away, but I could see a scenario where by the time August rolls around, we're getting less than 100 new cases a day. I guess you kinda have to hope that doesn't happen, right? Because if it does, libs will get roasted for mocking Trump for re-opening the economy in May. So, you kinda have to hope he fails and lots of people get sick in order to be right.

That certainly is true to some degree, we have many older people now who are much more susceptible to COVID so a bigger group who are more likely to die as well.

Folks are not advocating not reopening. They are advocating following the guidelines.

Below are states that meet the guidelines. Opening them up by the guidelines makes sense. Other states are doing so without meeting the guidelines. Those are where folks object to the governors gambling with lives in contravention with the guidelines.

No, I'm not a black and white kind of guy like you are. I've been working this whole time as an essential worker. I'm also highly involved with and actively coach youth sports. I'd love for the country to reopen sooner rather than later . . . for personal reasons mind you.

So, can you give me an example of what kind of virus type this would follow to just disappear like that? It's not like the common cold just "disappears" in the summer and even though it's not a "flu", the Spanish Flu was still very virulent in the summer and fall. If there was a mass spread of the virus between May and July . . . maybe we would have some kind of herd immunity by August regardless of vaccine availability? Is that your hope?

 

If you don't have any concerns about China or are an isolationist, then no. Don't get mad because it's probably not a big deal. If you ARE worried about China's expanding global influence then yeah . . . that's a huge strategic location for projecting naval power into a China Sea that the PRC is slowly taking control and dominance of.

 

Yeah, don't really give a crap what the rest of the world is doing or not doing. All I know is our dumbass 'leaders' have successfully succeeded in sticking a knife in our heart, doubtful if we ever really recover, even with the new idiot in the white house.

So personally I would caution against being so confident that we know everything about the effects of this pathogen at such an early stage.
