The virus escaping from the lab, I believe, is the prevailing thought. It would not be the first time this has happened in China, from what I understand, as the 2nd and 3rd outbreak of SARS in 2003 was because the virus escaped from a lab. The bigger questions in my mind are was the virus intentionally released and/or how much of a cover-up took place?

You should research it. If you are so sure that Costco, a printing press for money, is going to struggle because of this policy, it would be a great way for you to cash in on hunch.

Awesome, now people can run out and over dose on Vitamin D which is a real "thing" and leads to damage to the blood vessel walls, the heart and the kidneys.

I am not sure who these "people" you refer to are. Guessing you mean the public at large. However, medical professionals are aware of the effects of vitamin D, both good and bad. Further, if people would just go outside for 20 minutes a day 2-3 times per week without sunscreen everywhere, they would not be vitamin D deficient.

Agree that it is possible to have escaped, though even that seems a bit dubious. However, earlier in the thread another poster challenged the science of understanding viruses and claimed that people could not tell if a virus was natural or manipulated by people, ie intentionally engineered. I think that all of the evidence from experts who have studied this over and over shows that this virus was not manipulated by humans. That was all I was saying.

Not sure what you or the video's intent is, but Birx made sense The intent has been to try to make sure all cases that are possibly related to Covid-19 are marked on the proper forms. This will help down the road in obtaining a more accurate accounting.

I don’t think anyone is avoiding doing research so that some other company can later make more money off of a vaccine.

Escaping from the lab is definitely a possibility, but for life of me, I can’t see any reason to do it intentionally.

Why would people run out and over dose on Vitamin D by providing information on Vitamin D levels, their impact on the virus (if any), and any additional information on how to obtain safe but helpful levels of Vitamin D? I think your concern is more likely to unfold by restricting the amount of information people are given on the useful impact of Vitamin D (again, if any), on how it may help with SARS-CoV-2.

Gee, I don't know. Why did people run out and buy up all of the Chloroquine based poison used for fish gill-ick. Why did dumb asses go try to drink bleach and lysol and isopropal after the president made a "joke". Nope, cannot imagine why people would go over dose on vitamin D?

There are all kinds of things being studied from peroxide inhalers to vitamin C/D impacts to medications to UV light application, etc, etc.....and many of them, in fact most of them, are NOT being studied as carefully and rigorously as they should be because we are in a hurry. Yes, frankly, at this point, I think more information, especially half-assed, that will encourage people to consume, inject or otherwise introduce in an uncontrolled manor potentially dangerous chemicals, radiation, etc....into the human body based solely on a "causal link" and fear is actually a bad thing.
Once their have been controlled studies, that are conducted by scientists and statistically significant findings are available showing efficacy and safety, then yes, we should shout it from the roof tops. Until then, far too few people understand the basics of chemistry, physics and biology to be wound up and sent off half-cocked like these wack-job conspiracy nuts on Youtube who claim they can "cure" covid-19 with vitamin-C.

I think we need to open things up but I don't know if that is going to save your friend's businesses. People seem to be missing the true effect of this shutdown. Hopefully your friends don't own restaurants, hair salons, gyms, etc (businesses that rely on density to drive revenue. But let's look at some obvious impacts.

People are not going to be able to make rent and/or mortgage payments. Not just during the suspension but because of the loss of jobs after the startup. This means more foreclosures and evictions. Banks will lose money. The housing market will shrink. Realtors and mortgage companies will have to reduce their staff. Housing starts and home repairs will drop causing contractors and construction companies to lose work and need to lay people off. City, County and State Governments are also going broke and, unlike the Fed, can't just print money and borrow against the overall economy. That means city workers will face reduced wages or layoffs. Infrastructure projects will need to be cancelled or shelved. This means the construction industry is now going to be hit from losses by both the private AND government side.

With the loss of a lot of smaller restaurants, farmers will have reduced demand. Airlines are crushed for years. Aviation companies will suffer the effects from that. Car sales will slow as people without jobs can't afford new cars (nor qualify for many loans). All these out of work people will have much less money for discretionary spending like vacations let alone eating out, new furniture, electronics, etc, affecting those retailers (restaurants hit again by lower demand together with customer fear and any social distancing restrictions). And so on, and so on.

And the thing is, opening up the economy isn't going to fix this. Small businesses rely on other businesses and prosperous workers to frequent their shops. Look at Florida's biggest industries . . . . HOSPITALITY (theme parks, convention centers, airlines, beaches, hotels, cruises, etc) - shut down, long recovery ahead . . . AGRICULTURE - moderately to heavily impacted, lower demand due to loss of restaurants will reduce longterm revenue after a period of highly reduced revenue from the shutdown . . . . AVIATION - heavily impacted, airline industry collapse will mean reduced sales of new planes . . . . INTERNATIONAL TRADE - moderate to heavy impact, a global recession means less exports, a national recessions means less imports. Less trade means less need for shipping and transportation workers and infrastructure . . . . CONSTRUCTION - heavily impacted, there will be very little need for building commerce areas with a rash of retail bankruptcies and businesses going under. A housing downturn will stall future projects and current projects won't last for long. The huge expenses and loss of revenue from government agencies means that public projects will be reduced and/or delayed . . . . HEALTHCARE AND BIOMED - this may be a push. The initial losses caused by the pandemic (shut down of profitable procedures and surgeries) and loss of workforce (death and burnout) can probably be overcome. Research might see a boost for Pharma companies to prepare for future outbreaks. The variable here will be if there is long term mass unemployment in a system where healthcare is reliant on employment . . . what happens to the millions of people who are unemployed? Will they simply not get healthcare? Will they be unable to pay and just forced to go bankrupt if they do need medical attention?

Florida could be in trouble . . . and it could last longer hear than in the rest of the country due to our reliance on industries the most impacted by this crisis.

P.S. A lot of the state economy impacts would probably have occurred whether we had instituted a statewide shutdown or not since we are so reliant on commerce from other countries and travelers from other states and nations to drive our economy. And obviously if no shutdown had led to bodies stacking up in trucks outside hospitals that were completely overrun . . . any ensuing mass panic could have had even more disastrous economic repercussions.

I am mostly interested in what people can do, physically/behaviorally (not even taking supplements) to help them deal with the disease. I'm guessing you work in a medical field or a pharmaceutical field to even think along the lines of people looking to take something based on what I wrote. Don't you need a prescription for hydroxychloroquine? I read of two people consuming disinfectants, and they were both also identified as mentally unstable in the article. If they did that based on the news, they likely did that based on the media's reaction to what Trump said rather than what he actually said, but I don't expect many folks on this board to agree with that. Keep in mind that if this thing is going to be with us for a while, then we all may have more control over how much it impacts us in the mean time. Some of that is managed by social distancing protocols; can any of it be managed by encouraging folks to exhibit healthier behaviors?

Updated stats as of 8:30 am EDT. There were 2 states with 1-2 deaths but there were 18 states with 0 deaths yesterday.
