Thanks for your thoughtful post, dingy. I think you hit the nail on the head with this statement: "You might be mindful enough to not require wearing a mask...." I think some people are looking to make my statement more encompassing that what I was actually presenting. Regarding "major population centers," I do think there is merit in treating areas that have a higher case load differently than areas that do not, but that's a new topic for discussion not related to what I was presenting (0.06% estimated active reported case rate in Alachua County in case anybody is wondering...number of reported cases less than 28 days old vs. population of county).

Just went walking on the woods trails near my house. Passed three people/couples walking their dogs. My wife and I stepped well off the trail to let them pass and all three said something like "it's OK, they're friendly."
When I explained that we were just distancing, two of them actually said "Oh, I forgot about that ..."
    That doesn't bode well.

So, a bad dining experience at Applebee's? Guess we are returning to normalcy.

Trump is throwing Fauci under the bus now. His message on Fox is likely a trial balloon to see if he can turn his troops against Fauci. Lay the blame anywhere but on himself. What is over/under for Fauci departure?

Trump defends the US's bungled coronavirus response by claiming Fauci told him 'it's not gonna be a big deal'

    • President Donald Trump said at a Fox News town hall on Sunday night that "everybody," including leading infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, previously downplayed the severity of the virus.
    • In response to a question about why he did not act sooner to prepare for a COVID-19 outbreak in the US, Trump said Fauci "was saying it's gonna pass, not gonna be a big deal."
    • While Fauci has been warning the Trump administration about an infectious disease outbreak since 2017, he said in January that the novel coronavirus was not something Americans should be worried about "right now."
    ………………………...
Even Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who has also been a top official in the White House coronavirus task force, has been warning the Trump administration about a potential disease outbreak since 2017.

"There is no question that there will be a challenge to the coming administration in the arena of infectious diseases," Fauci said during a speech at Georgetown University in 2017, adding, "the thing we're extraordinarily confident about is that we're going to see this in the next few years."

He also stressed at the time the need for a "public-health emergency fund" to treat disease outbreaks, though the Trump administration has been in recent years cutting spending for federal agencies responsible for detecting and preparing for outbreaks.

It does for them. They have a chance of moving past this thing instead of letting it control them the rest of their lives.

Not sure I understand. Simply ignoring it will make it go away?
(And by the way, stepping a few feet off a trail to let someone else pass is not a great burden, not exactly unbearably controlling my life ...)

Yeah, cause moving a couple of feet off a trail is controlling the rest of their lives.
I find it humorous that a lot of the same people talking about “not letting fear rule my life” are the same ones that need to carry a weapon everywhere.

Just remember how disappointed Dr. Fauci will be if you touch your mother's hand.

Well Fauci did say that. I do not think Trump should of thrown him under the bus at all, do not like that one bit, but its his MO unfortunately. Fauci was wrong, the WHO was wrong, pretty much everybody was, thanks to China's coverup.

You didn’t answer the question. Do you think it will simply go away if we ignore it?

I would like to hear/read the exact quote Trump is referencing. Faucci May have said something along those lines, but “it’ll pass, it’s no big deal” sounds like Trumps verbiage, not how Faucci speaks. I doubt that’s exactly what he said or meant.

What a scene it would be if a customer was coughing because he was choking on his food. After 3 or 4 commands to leave and the final threat to call the police, the customer collapses to the floor and only then, everybody goes apeshit running for their masks and their gloves and their Fauci playbooks and last of all, the Heimlich maneuver chart. Then, they remember that you can't Heimlich somebody from 6 feet away anyway and call the police, who form a perimeter around the building while deciding through internal bullying which one of them gets to do the deed.

“This is not a major threat to the people of the United States and this is not something that the citizens of the United States should be worried about right now,” Dr. Fauci told Newsmax’s Greg Kelly on January 21.
