They need to study different categories of patients. In this case, how do you keep patients off ventilators? Are you stopping the disease before it gets serious? Very important group to study.

 

The mask issue is particularly interesting to me. It appears that America embodies a culture of defiance which in and of itself is not surprising, but it's not lost on me that you have lived much of your life abroad. My wife is from Taiwan, where not only do they wear masks, they got way out in front of Covid-19. Look at their numbers - they are astoundingly low. It's a nation of 23 million that exists 80 miles from China and still has less than half the deaths (6) as the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Hell, we have more deaths in St. Louis Co, Minnesota than all of Taiwan. I won't pretend that wearing masks is the magic bullet. In their culture, though, they take pandemics VERY seriously. There is no culture of "well, people are going to die anyway." They appear to be much better equipped to take precaution when it comes to viruses. Why does the U.S. appear not to? Just my humble opinion, but there appear to be way too many cavalier attitudes in the U.S. We care about "me first and everyone else can figure it out."

 

ABC world news tonight just showed wet markets in NY, some with disgusting conditions. Animals crammed into small cages, one dead chicken.

Does it concern you that everyone doesn't want to play team "Be Afraid" all the time and are looking at both sides of the situation. If you choose to hide in the shadows and live to not die then good for you. I say again, 99.7% of a state are not infected or have died and you have zero proof that all this social distancing, standing 6 feet apart, following arrows up and down a grocery store or staying off the beaches has anything to do with reducing the numbers. You only believe it because you are told to do it. I for one believe that the virus is just running it's course and I also believe that all we are doing now is nothing more than a guess. Don't know if you have noticed, maybe you haven't, but humanity has continued on through all you mentioned. The winner in all those events. Mankind.

During the time of the Spanish Flu I think it would be acceptable to say that we didn't have quite the medical facilities or medicines that we have today, the measles required a vaccine and so will this virus. Dengue kills adults/children and life still goes on. You will not see people wearing rubber suits and building safe houses to avoid the killer mosquito (by the way I have had dengue fever twice and it is a nightmare) and the cure is...hydration. There is no vaccine or medicine to counter the effects just lots of water.
I haven't chosen to ignore or disbelieve "the science" and in fact think that throwing all your trust into that without using common sense is a fools game. Statistics and evidence are controllable and also distortable and has been adjusted forever to benefit those who can benefit.

 

Cleveland Clinic in Miami was arguing for a 99% accuracy for antibody tests as most acceptable and should be demanded.

Part of the reason Asians use the face mask. ASIAN FLU: History shows this began in China and moved through Asia before coming to the USA in 1957. Keeping in mind that WW2 and the Korean War factored into not so great living conditions for most in Asia. VIALS STILL EXIST IN LABORATORIES AROUND THE WORLD.

Now in your comment about Americans being too "cavalier", I don't quite buy into that theory. Just maybe the extremes don't match the need? I choose to believe that and it has nothing to do with being selfish. Strangely enough, those that are all in to whatever they are told to do don't get that they promote a mindset of "just join in and we will all sing kumbaya together and if you don't do it then you are a troublemaker". 2 months ago, we had no choice. New Cases +28,429 New Deaths +2,390

Deaths/1 mil pop 186. This is up 40 in the last week

With NY/NJ numbers down but still getting over 2000 a day, so deaths are up around the country.

You apparently believe you are one of those 'rare' people that "want to live". Implying that others are fearful or want to hide (rather than want to protect the world and their families). You have no idea what I want, nor do you know what how brave I am (or not).

Do you know why Worldometer numbers that you frequently post are so much higher than numbers found almost every where else? Not a criticism either, just curious if you know.

You must have missed the whole Maldives rescue effort when some posters contributed for one plane ticket that got bought and then cancelled and then one very generous poster flat out bought him another ticket out of his own pocket to get him back to Florida. Still wondering if he ever got the refund for the first ticket he bought from expedia and the second one that GC members bought him with Aeroflot and what happened to those funds when third ticket was purchased

 

I believe with the positive test numbers they use all of them (some people test positive 2 or more times)whereas the DOH websites only uses new cases in their numbers

Once again. I never questioned one's "bravery" and never implied "what you want". I do not "apparently believe I am one of those rare people that want to live but I am part of large group of people that want to "live", as in get out of the confines of our isolation, and I do believe that others want to hide out of fear. I do not believe that concern for others lives is the factor that it is for ones self preservation. The colors were done just for you as a way to show my appreciation for voicing your opinion so adamantly. While I find your passion a bit over the top at least for the most part you stayed civil and unlike some folks on here refrained from making it to personal. Remember, these discussions do not create division for me and in fact are encouraging whenever disagreement is explained. By the way, I have no idea if I am right or wrong, I am probably right but it makes no difference if I am not. Just one of hundreds of opinions. Good post. To clarify, yes in numbers of deaths it is deadlier than the flu but to clarify I was speaking to the actual mortality rate of those infected. in Reality, how do they know what the actual mortality rate of the flu is? Everyone who gets the flu doesn't go to the doctor.
