Seriously. F the WHO. You want to talk about not taking it seriously? You want to talk about negligence?? The WHO, you know, the "EXPERTS"? They told us Trump was wrong for shutting down flights from China. Trump, you know, the reality TV star playing president? He told the WHO to kick rocks and guess who was right? Hint: it wasn't the "EXPERTS"!!

If there is a resurgence which I think there will be, there will be some immunity from the small percentage of the population that was exposed this time. But I think you will have a problem getting buy in for another economic shutdown again.

Which is why you have to have massive testing capacity so you can go test everyone that had any interaction with a positive. Test and trace well enough and we can go back to work and dining and bowling alleys etc.

Hey lookie everyone!! Joe Biden finally supports Mr. Trump's China travel ban. As of April 3rd!! Wow, we have to elect Creepy Joe in November on his prescience alone. Sure, he's a little late to the game, but we know he thought of this 2 months ago, right??

United States has tested more than 2 million. There's not another country that's even tested a million. You cannot just snap your fingers and create 150,000,000 Covid-19 tests. Some hard decisions will have to be made, but please don't blame this on Trump and testing.

I wasn’t pointing a finger of blame. I was expressing a positive expectation of our country’s ability to get to the needed testing levels. Good lord, everything isn’t a fight.
Now as to the more tests than anyone. Absolutely true.

It is also true that about 50 countries have tested a greater percentage of their population.

We’re behind but catching up. We’ll need to have a huge increase in testing availability in order to open things up after this first wave. I have confidence we’ll get there. A ton of resources are pouring into getting us there.

Try not to think everything is a knock. I was actually expressing confidence that we will get there with testing.

Trump’s travel ban came after Delta United and American had already shut down service to and from mainland China. Foreign carriers like Air France, BA and SAS has suspended even before that.
Just like almost everything else in this crisis, the rest of America was ahead of him, thankfully.

Agree with that and I could see a selective stay in place for senior citizens or those with underlying health conditions.

Trump didn't shut down flights from China. 40,000 people flew back from China and were not screened properly after he stopped flights for people that held Chinese passports only.

Percentage of the population tested is not indicative of how efficiently a country is mass producing tests. Obviously, we have a lot more ground to cover here. We'll have to make more tests. When there isn't a single country that has tested even half of the number we have, that says a lot.

Right, so why did the WHO cry foul? I mean, it wasn't even a real travel ban, right? And Biden agrees with it now, as of 3 days ago. Are you saying it was the wrong move?

I'm not sure how much of a choice we'd have absent any ability to control the spread. Basically every person will need to be tested, but even more so, that we have a vaccine. At least that is how it looks to me right now.

According to the NY Times, Delta and United said they would suspend service on Feb. 6th. The President suspended travel on 1/31 that would be effective on 2/2. American said they would suspend flights immediately on the same day the President announce the travel restrictions.

Can you provide the quote of the WHO "crying foul?" All I have seen is them stating that policies should be data-driven (which is a corporate jargon term that never actually ends up meaning truly data-driven, to be fair) and that they generally oppose travel bans. Given that the virus is spreading like wildfire across the US, I am not sure whether the policy was effective to any degree (to be fair again, it may have had some effect, but there is no evidence to suggest its effectiveness either way). It may have slowed the takeoff somewhat, but we wasted that time by not creating and mass producing tests and producing a testing and isolation program during that time.

It’s what matters. How much of your population can you test? The more you can test, the better you can do contact tracing. Raw numbers of tests matter in so much as they reflect how well you can test those that need tests.

This isn’t complicated, but it isn’t as simple as “we’ve tested more than much smaller countries with less need for testing”.

We have a huge motivation to massively increase our testing capacity. It’s what puts us back to work. The need is identified and we’ll get there.

fair enough, they had only announced it before he did. Either way, they were ahead of him. It made his decision far easier because there were almost no flights to cancel. And no one was flying anyway, airlines cancelled because planes were empty.

Next micro-hot spot could happen in northern Idaho compliments of the Bundys. Not sure I would be too upset if they continued holding meetings with their Corona infected buddies except for the innocent people they would inevitably infect. Karma has some work to do.
A ‘Liberty’ Rebellion in Idaho Threatens to Undermine Coronavirus Orders

Inside an old factory building north of Boise, a few dozen people gathered last week to hear from Ammon Bundy, the man who once led an armed takeover of an Oregon wildlife refuge.

Mr. Bundy said in an interview that a group in the Boise area was looking for a venue to host an Easter service this coming weekend with a potential crowd of 1,000 people. Mr. Bundy said a man in Twin Falls hoped to host communion in a park. And Mr. Bundy himself is now leading regular meetings with dozens of people to assess how to fight back against what he calls government overreach, including with a physical presence if necessary.

While the state was one of the last in the country to identify a coronavirus case, it now has far more cases per capita than California. Blaine County, which includes the popular Sun Valley ski resort, now has the largest per capita concentration of coronavirus cases in the nation.
