What did your fact checking show? My interpretation of the link does not address COVID and lupus. It just speaks in generic terms

 

The simple quip is people are what's wrong. The longer answer, it encourages non-essential activity outside the home. When more people go out, it raises the risk of more people doing foolish things like deciding to get out of their cars to talk to neighbors or on whims going to the market, entire family, and thus a decrease in social distancing and higher risk of community spread of the virus.

 

I've hiked everyday for at least two weeks. I am very fortunate to have a network of trails behind my house. It's been very good for my mental health. I always see a bunch of prairie dogs & rabbits & usually several deer. I hiked in a snow storm 2 days ago & in mud today. When the weather gets a wee bit nicer, I am gonna to start doing some hammocking.

 

Just got back from a hike in the Green River Gameland area. Phenomenal. Not a ton of people out but did pass about a dozen before I got to the split to the harder area. Had to stop by grocery for my weekly trip. That was the scary part of the day.

 

It's not just you. I'm right there with you. I've gathered a number of the silliest things written regarding this virus and when the time is right, I will share them w/o identifying the posters. And not as some kind of "I told you so," but in the hopes that when alarms are sounded in the future by leading experts around the world, that hopefully more people will listen carefully.
I've also been informally tracking the global and U.S. numbers. Looking back just a couple of weeks, the numbers are staggering.

 

More difficult terrain usually thins out the herd. Headed to Silar's Bald on the AT. Might see some thru-hikers this time of the year.

Modified herd immunity? Too early to tout certain strategies, when there is substantial evidence and data points?

 

I'm just going off of what I'm being told to do. Maybe I'm just being too harsh. It's difficult not to overthink things these days. My local and state government have said to stay at home unless you are going some place necessary. You could make an argument that hiking is necessary for the mind/body and I could get behind that. Thanks for you alternative view of the situation!

Edit: Actually now that I think about it the FL Governor said that going outdoors, boating, and fishing are fine so I definitely thought too far.

 

Had an Alaskan cruise booked for August with extended family but now that is in question. Both sons are making us grandparents this summer so they cancelled and my brother and family cancelled too. We went to Alaska on a cruise 3 years ago - man that place got to me. On a cruise you really only see a tiny piece of the small end of that huge place but I was enthralled. Sat on the deck with binoculars and saw bunches of brown bears on shore and whales in between. Wish I had gone there as a young man - I don't think I would have come back. That fishing trip sounds fantastic - hope you get to go.

 

I can't disagree with anything you said. But there's a pair of Porsches living in my garage, and I'm not gonna let them sit and rot till the lockdown ends. And they're not doing grocery shopping duty either. So I'm still gonna take one out for a ride every couple of weeks to warm everything up, circulate the fluids, burn a few hydrocarbons, etc. Might take the Cabrio out this evening, in fact.

 

There are actually 2 Silar's Balds - One is in the park but I'm going to the other one in Nantahala NF. Both are on the AT. My destination has a trail head off of US-64 about 30 miles from the house. Must have been a lot of Silars hereabouts - their name occupies a few other place names.

There is no support for what Trump said about lupus patients and the national organization says that they are at greater risk because lupus is an autoimmune disease.
