American hospitals are pulling together as a team to fight coronavirus. Good to see this level of cooperation and esprit de corps.

Frightened Doctors Face Off With Hospitals Over Rules on Protective Gear

"You must follow the rules even if it kills you!"

In Asia, people from all walks of life wear masks around every day to protect themselves from viruses. Several doctors in the U.S. are losing their jobs because they are wearing masks in hospital hallways or speaking up about a lack of supplies. They aren't try to rob banks.

I think people haven't figured out Trump isn't a lawyer with impeccable verbal skills:) I think from what I read is that he blames the protocols put in place by his predecessors that lead to the CDC botching their test. Remember the CDC was already working on their own test and ignored the WHO test. That protocol was changed in 2012:

So what happened then? Not Obama, not Trump. Not even the CDC. The most litigated country in the history of mankind, that's why. What caused this was frickin bloated ass government. Red tape. Regulations. We have the most advanced testing labs on the planet and because our government is like Fat Albert after dinner at Golden Corral the FDA had to get in the way. 6 months to approve just about anything. We just got lucky all these decades. But when you think about how bloated this government is compared to the one in 1918, it's like comparing the fattest guy ever against Bruce Lee. We can't do anything without it taking a half year. A simple ass bill requires nearly 1,000 pages. Shit, the lynching bill had more pages in it than all of the news pages devoted to those that were lynched. This virus exposed us and showed how not very nimble we really are. I doubt Congress will learn from this. Probably will make it worse by adding even more layers of regulations.

Everyone wants us to do what South Korea did but hehe not with our government getting in the way. And there are some that want even bigger government. Then we might as well give away our sovereign right and give it to the WHO.

sad reality is that most hospitals are run by accountants and publicists anymore. it's all about the beans baby. My MIL was a RN that worked her way up to hospital VP at not for profit hospital in Ohio who ultimately resigned and retired as the beans became more important than the patients and the caregivers.

I mentioned my Sister In Law on the Roosevelt docked in Guam. They now have over 100 sailors on board with Covid-19. :(

There were ways for Trump to wave the regulations. He was too busy downplaying the emergency. Don't blame the red tape. This is on Trump. In most cases, it's better to be safe than "nimble." In cases where we need to be nimble, we have mechanisms in place that allow it.

Lots of bad news in the US numbers today.
21k cases yesterday, almost 25k today.
748 deaths, far and away the most so far.
Georgia went from 485 cases to over 1000.
Louisiana went from just under 500 to 1200.
Florida has their first day over 1000.
Virginia went from 130 to 230 cases.
18 states had at least 10 fatalities.
9 states had at least 25.
Texas went from 98 to 760 (probably at least in part a recording problem from the previous day)

    among other things.

on the good side, NJ’s cases dropped back down to where they had been, and NY’s deaths dropped a bit.

but it’s getting really real. We will see if today was an aberration or trend.

A friend of mine's wife worked for UMC. Not surprised that place is in the news for stupid management and rules.

We are literally texting as I type this. She said it is "over 100". A SF Chronicle article from 2 hours ago said the same.

Hopefully they can empty the ship and quarantine.

Ugh. You'll find no tighter quarters than on a navy ship, even the largest of them. :(
