Yes Newsome had beaches closed and a paddle boarder arrested. And yes Whitmer prohibited people to visit family at different household…while she did exactly that via private jet to Florida. There were lots of people that would have liked to see loved ones but were prohibited and arrested if attempted and caught

Aug 2020 after my parents just had Covid. I was doing my part visiting them in Niceville (dad was a former back seater in the R-F4 and provided me super protection!)!

1. To care for a family member or a family member’s pet in another household.

1. To care for minors, dependents, the elderly, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable persons.

1. To visit an individual under the care of a health care facility, residential care facility, or congregate care facility, to the extent otherwise permitted.

1. To attend legal proceedings or hearings for essential or emergency purposes as ordered by a court.

This is just silly. The “free state of FL” also closed its beaches at this time, and did perhaps the stupidest stunt of all in trying to establish a highway checkpoint to catch travelers driving from New York. But that move ostensibly “owns da Yankee libz”, so I guess you glossed over it.

In the early days when the lockdown was happening - nobody knew much about the virus, other than based in China and Italy and NYC its death rate appeared to be at least 1% but possibly as high as 3%. Not that crazy to consider any large gathering in that public health scenario, even at beaches. The main concern was spring break was around that same time as the virus was first emerging in the U.S. I’m sure alot if epidemiologists were highly triggered by what they were seeing.

Beach closures were not a persistent thing, though I do recall CA did some later closures when they were seeing spikes, so theirs obviously were more than FL. I suspect there was very little of that at all after 2020.

 

Death rate for the imaginary pathogen was 0%.

But you’re right on one matter: every state panicked and shut down. Yes, Kristi Noem is said to have been the only governor who did not officially issue lockdown orders.

Then we watched the cities and counties shutting down of their own accord as if to tell Noem, “You can’t tell us not to panic!”
