Also, for the dummies who like to say that Sweden both handled covid badly because they didn't lock down and then when they realized Sweden had the lowest all cause death rate over the pandemic said Sweden did in fact lock down, Here is this article showing Sweden didn't change their mobility during the start of the pandemic LOL.

The myth of Sweden's voluntary lockdown

Is your position that people shouldn't wear masks now or people never should have worn masks? I don't wear a mask now with vaccinations and NI, but didn't have an issue with it earlier on. In such a time of uncertainty in 2020, I just don't see the harm in masks since even "little difference" could mean saving thousands of lives on a large scale with very minimal downside (discomfort).

If only you understood risk/benefit and how damaging it was to push a one size fits all policy for something in medicine.

Using percent change to tell a story is useless, unless you are comparing apples to apples. And even then, the apples you are comparing must be similar. Compare a granny smith with a honeycrisp and there are plenty of differences, including color, size, and taste.

Using percent change in mobility for COVID purposes doesn't tell enough of the story to make any concrete conclusions. What are the populations for each country? And what is the starting mobility rate in each? For example, let's take two countries, Country A with 10 million population, and Country B with 100 million. The 10 million population country has a pre-pandemic work from home rate of 30%. During the pandemic, that rose to 40%. The 100 million country has a pre-pandemic wfh rate of 15%, and during the pandemic, that rose to 30%. Which country would see a larger percent change in mobility? Which country would likely see a bigger reduction in COVID death rates?

Country B would see the bigger shift in mobility because it has a larger shift in wfh rates. But Country A would likely perform better in terms of COVID deaths. Why? Because Country A has a lot less people and still a higher wfh percentage overall. Country B had a bigger change, but a virus doesn't care about percent change. It cares about total person-to-person interactions where the infected person can act as a vector and the virus can infect others. Country B, even with the larger percent change, still has significantly more human-to-human interaction because it has a larger population, and smaller percentage of them working from home.

The fact that Sweden shows a significant percent change in mobility proves the country took steps to mitigate the virus. And when you study Sweden mobility on its own from pre-COVID to during the height of the pandemic, you see significant changes in mobility patterns. Maybe those changes weren't as drastic as in other countries, but just looking at percent change doesn't tell us much. Unless you don't understand statistics and are desperate for anything that looks like it proves your point, even when it does not.

I've been against masks since this has been known for decades that masks don't work to stop a respiratory virus. The harm was making people think if they wore a mask, they could do anything and they were safe. That was wrong and they made up data to support their position. It's why so many people have lost faith in the CDC. They got political and didn't follow science.

In 2020 the US experienced horrible excess deaths, Canada virtually none.

    Maybe viruses recognize borders ?

I'm not sure what pandemic you lived through but I don't recall any guidance that people could do whatever they want if they wore a mask. Stay at home, avoid large gatherings altogether, avoid being in enclosed spaces if possible, and social distance when in public.

Personally, wearing a mask made me more vigilant about the risks - a constant reminder to keep distance from people, wash my hands if I touch anything, etc

Science: public has no business wearing a mask, wear a mask, wear two masks, wear goggles you can get it through the eyes.

If ‘Covid’ wasn’t the darkest period, in American history, it was certainly the most embarrassing.

Yeah, those lockdowns and school closures and masking worked wonders LOL. Masking was a religion to some. Sorry to be the one to burst the bubble, but there is no masking god. They don't work. The science shows they don't and never have.

When you can't argue the facts, resort to name calling! You do this very well. Carry on.
