Wait so you're happy with everything that happened in Florida (other than nursing homes) and all this ranting about evil policies and generational damage is out of concern only for other states?

Actually no. DeSantis should have never shut down for 60 days. Well we were allowed to reopen a week mosh early. And he should have reopened schools in the Spring of 2020. But as a whole…Florida was the gold standard when it came to responses among the 50 states.

Still with the gold standard despite all the evidence saying our outcomes were pretty average.

Actually, among states that imposed lockdowns (SD did not) Georgia’s Kemp was the first to open up in April 2020. And Trump attacked him for it. And I think it was well into Fall 2020 before DeSantis allowed bars to reopen.

I can't help but think you're advocating for these recommendations using the benefit of hindsight. There were a lot of unknowns in the spring of 2020 about how COVID spread, how deadly it is, how to treat it, etc.

To use an analogy, let's say patients and staff at your office started getting sick for unknown reasons. Sick with something clearly worse than a cold/flu since some people are ending up in the hospital and one or two even died. Do you keep the business open BAU? Do you shut down until you understand what's happening? In this analogy, it would actually be a bit easier because there would be an identifiable cause - asbestos, a new product you started using that's defective, etc.

For the people responsible for making decisions related to COVID there wasn't an obvious solution. It was highly transmissible, without a cure or effective therapeutics. In spring 2020 there would have been limited (and short term) studies with conflicting results. To act like the obvious solution was to only take minimal steps is disingenuous, not to mention still very much up for debate even with the benefit of hindsight.

I don't trust just the "facts checking sites" either... most of the popular ones are Liberal owned and operated.

Here are some sites that are rated for their accuracy. But even these have to be further researched and checked for true factual accuracy. Here is one Newspaper that seems to be more honest than the NY Times.

Here is what they say about the CDC with regard to the Covid-19 vaccines in particular.

The CDC has a hidden agenda when it comes to COVID vaccines

So DeSantis isn’t evil for shutting down but other governors are?

The only thing worse in hospitals was doctors killing people with treatable ailments, especially in the early months of hysteria. See my post #41524

In the early going, Blue States and Red States were competing with each other over who could shut down the hardest.

SD’s Kristi Noem was an exception. But businesses in SD cities shut down anyway.

It was a bipartisan panic. And to the declaration “You can’t open your business or send your kids to school until further notice”, the public response was pretty much “Okay.”

He’s measuring his standard based on how much he was personally inconvenienced. As selfish as it gets.

His wife's practice kept all the federal assistance that was dolled out. He was bragging about record bonuses for employees.

People were unbelievably selfish ... in wanting to open their businesses, send their kids to school, go to church, comfort their dying and bury their dead ... when some people were scared.

Seriously, the victim card has gotten so old. This isn’t the first and I’m sure it won’t be the last time you’ve misunderstood someone’s words and painted them as the attacker. Pointing out your job is not always intended to be demeaning. Some of the posts here, sure they were, I’ll give you that. This one though, your job is relevant in this discussion because it shows your lack of qualifications for this topic relative to the people you insist are wrong. This wasn’t a shot at you or your job, stop with the victim act.

We can’t all be doctors. But America’s top doctor said it was like the flu and ten times worse than the flu, in a 24 hour period, then said don’t wear a mask, do wear a mask, wear two, goggles if you’ve got ‘em in a period of weeks. Think we would have been better off with a witch doctor.
