This thread has turned into a cesspool of disinformation with right wing anti-vaxxed a and fools posting their garbage here. Just catching up tod-at, I see that nobody who actually follows science really wants to post here anymore. The sad part I that I have real questions about the latest vaccine. I got it but I am not sure if it benefits Me. But this isn’t the place to discuss it anymore. This thread should be locked.

We have tried to keep the “treatments and cures” thread from disinformation and nonsense. I’ve asked the mods for help in that.

It is really bizarre how there are some posters who seem to spend most of their time here posting disinformation about Covid and vaccines.

That’s an easy and complicated question.

From a basic perspective, it benefits you because at a minimum it will increase your antibody response to Covid for a period of a few months. It works like the flu shot in this instance. It lowers your odds of infection or severity, but nothing close to 100%. It is still quite possible to get infected.

As to whether it helps your long term T cell responses above and beyond what you already have from prior vaccines and maybe infection, the information is mixed, but the answer is probably not, at least up to 6 months out. Beyond 6 months it isn’t clear.

Is the new booster better than the old booster? Again information is mixed. Some info says yes, other info says not. Still waiting for definitive info on this.

There are reputable people, like Dr Paul Offit, who don’t think it is necessary if you fall into lower risk groups and have an already robust immunity built up from prior shits and boosters and infection.

Personally I got it because….why not? Anything to lower my risk, and to lower probability of spreading it to my elderly parents. Both my wife and young adult kids got it, because they hadn’t been boosted in over a year. But I have no illusions sooner or later we will get it, boosted it not. My daughter is the only one of 4 of us who has gotten Covid.

I had omicron in late June and early July. After the Moderna series and 2 boosters. So, in terms of T cell memory, what did the new booster give me? Legit question. Especially considering the study in imprinting. It may be that the more traditional vaccines that teach the body to respond to the protein are better than the viruses that train for recognition of the spike. I would love to see cords vax studies. J&J or Novavax compare to the mrna vaccines

It is comic listening to some talk as if they understand science when they are the same people who completely ignored it from the beginning. Supporting the coercion of healthy people to take a drug not only that they did not need but in many cases people who already had Covid. And they still peddle the idea healthy children should take these shots.

I would say you can’t make it up but it is here for people to see.

With the initial vax, 2 boosters and omicron 2-3 months ago I would suspect the new booster will be of marginal benefit.

I think Paul Offit said he had similar situation, vaccines, booster then omicron infection and didn’t feel compelled to get the new booster at the moment.

A reasonable strategy could be to wait until new year, 5-6 months out from your omicron infection, and then boost if infection rates are spiking.

For the record, I have no medical background and no specific expertise, only what I’ve read and listened to from people who do.

This past Monday, Oct 31, I felt ill and by Tuesday, Nov 1st, I was worse with rising temperature, head congestion, and vise-like headache. And a dry cough developed. As I had been informed on Sunday, Oct. 30 that Tucker and I had been in the company of someone who had been exposed to covid from a third person who was sick with covid, I took the test and it was indeed positive. It is the first time I had been sick with covid in the almost 3 years it has become pandemic. Trucker did not start to feel sick until Tuesday night, more than 24 hours after me. But the stubborn man would not take the test until Friday when our exasperated surgeon son said, "Take the damn test, Nonnie." It's what our grandkids call him. He had been saying as long as he did not know; he did not have it.

The headache worsened, the dry cough turned productive and Wednesday I began expelling mucus. I had a video conference with my primary care physician, given advice but told I was not eligible to take paxlovid due to diminished kidney function, compromised by the cancer and subsequent radiation treatment I received in 2019. She told me to take things like Mucinex for relief, stay well hydrated, and rest. If it worsened call her.

By Thursday I had pains that gave sensations of moving around my body, from left upper thigh groin area, to left kidney and rib areas, and the upper quadrant of left chest. The worst was the pain that came when I had to cough. The urge to cough was now paroxysmal, but necessary and unavoidable to rid myself of accumulating mucus.

By Saturday night i was in such distress I had to call my doctor. The pain and tightness in chest rib area was terrible. And my breathing was more like gasping. She advised me to go to ER.

Getting there was complicated. Normally Trucker would drive me but he too was sick himself from covid, though fortunately not as badly as me. We called 911 and shortly after midnight early Sunday morning I was picked up by a Grand Junction hospital EMS crew and transported to the St. Mary's hospital ER for evaluation. After arriving I was CT scanned, X rayed and ultrasounded. They found a blood clot in my left lung and I was admitted for IV blood thinning heparin treatment. After receiving treatment for the last day, the pain from the blood clot is greatly diminished - nearly gone and I can now cough out the mucus without painful restraint from the irritating clot.

I have learned there is an established association between covid and blood clots. Have not done much research on it, but because of my most recent experience wanted to mention it on this thread.

BH you are getting better. Our little text group has been praying for you. @unclenunzio offered to drive out to help. Trucker let us know. The clot is a risk factor from COVID. My friend had an asymptotic case and he developed a clot out of nowhere. I am so happy to read your post— not for what you went though but that you are well enough to post. Keep getting better J.

This is what I thought but my doctor wanted me to take it because of a risk factor. I waited three months. My reaction (I get fever and lethargy) was much milder than the second shot and previous boosters. I took an Advil and was able to get out to my synagogue that day.

We follow science it's just that you don't like our science For some strange reason you think your science is better than our science.
