Yes, but that is because of the virus, not because of the vaccine. The claim was that the vaccine didn't work like previous vaccines, that is false. The mRNA vaccine works exactly the same as the previous vaccines.

Totally agree. This is what most people don’t understand and has been poorly communicated in the media. Covid vaccination will likely never provide the level of long term infection protection compared to other diseases because Covid as a disease is different. But yes they work exactly the same way.

It is one thing that frustrates my when Bill Gates repeatedly talks about the short term nature of the Covid vaccine protection and needing a better long term vaccine. As far as I know, that would entail some breakthrough technology different than all prior vaccines (and natural immunity) something that somehow provokes immediate antibody like responses long term, without the actual antibodies.

Can we finally let Covid be the common cold/flu it is now?

Or do we still need to push these new drugs. Finally we had someone post on ivermectin which has not been a serious thing for quite some time. These new drugs are in the same spot now. Would have been nice if we were more forward looking but we are where we are.

Tylenol and Ibuprofen with some Benadryl will solve the vast majority of the issues with Covid going forward (of course we can always have a variant that is worse than others). If you want to live in Covid fear we have a few prophylactics and of course you can always BOOST! :)

Benadryl is an anti-histamine. It should not be taken to treat a viral infection. There has been one study that shows anti-histamine and a compound in milk may slow the virus down in a lab setting, but no data showing real world effectiveness. And not all lab successes translate. There is, however, some data on anti-histamines being effective in treating long COVID.

As for boosting with the vaccine, it's still the best way, by far, to avoid having a serious case of COVID. Here's the latest hospitalization data. Unvaccinated adults, 18 and older, are 4.6X more likely to end up in the hospital with COVID versus vaccinated. And kids under 17 are nearly twice as likely. The data speaks for itself.

Common cold doesn't kill a million people in two years.

You're still wrong on so much, trapped by bad ideas.

Don’t need Benadryl it to slow the virus down. Use it to clear congestion. Your body will fight the virus just fine. Like it does with other colds…

This thing has become the common cold/flu. Stop living in the past. Thank goodness these variants are far less severe. Live in fear and boost if you must. It is not necessary anymore.

There’s only one study I’ve heard of with Benadryl and there may be nothing there, but to the extent histamine can lead to inflammation antihistamines may decrease the severity of some Covid symptoms. There is some evidence that first generation antihistamines can help with some cold symptoms.

If I had Covid and symptoms I’d probably pop a couple of Benadryl and fluvoxamine (or fluoxetine) but I wouldn’t rely on it as a primary treatment. Ultimately it may or may not be proven to work. But unlike Ivermectin at least there is a theoretical basis surrounding it.

I'll pass on taking advice from someone who seems to misunderstand so much. It's not a common cold. This is what you fundamentally misunderstand. You've been trying this argument for many months now. It was wrong then. It's wrong now. But thanks anyway.

Argumentum ad populum doesn't get you closer to being right.

You have to wonder about people who rationalize a million deaths as basically nothing to see here.

Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) is a decongestant that would help with any stuffiness caused by COVID. Anti-histamines only help keep histamine levels down. If one has allergies and COVID, Benadryl would help. Otherwise, better to take something with pseudoephedrine.

Additionally, a large study has shown Omicron to be as deadly as Delta. And the reason we're seeing lower overall hospitalization and death numbers is because Omicron hit during a period of high vaccination rates. And again, nothing is better at preventing COVID hospitalization and death better than vaccination.

Do what you need to do.

This thing is thankfully far less severe in how it attacks. And we have ways to deal with it. It has become the common cold to most. Which is a good thing.

But if you must continue to live in fear…by all means. Most of us are moving on accordingly.

Decongestants and Antihistamines for the Common Cold

Some types of them can help relieve your runny nose and sneezing when you have a cold.

They block a chemical your body makes called histaminethat makes the tissues in your nose itch and swell.

Most experts say that histamine isn't the major cause of a runny nose when you have a cold. Even so, some of the older antihistamines, such as brompheniramine and chlorpheniramine, can bring relief.

Newer antihistamines like fexofenadine (Allegra) and loratidine (Claritin) have not been shown to work for cold symptoms.

So antihistamines may help with symptoms. With Covid often it is the overactive immune response that causes the problem in those that get really sick. So it isn’t likely that the Benadryl would make Covid go away, but it may dampen the extreme immune response and resulting inflammation.

Fluvoximine is an SSRI and SSRIs have been found to be anti inflammatory and blood thinners so that may be why they help prevent the most extreme symptoms.

There you go again with your fallacies. I didn't mention anything about what I was doing or not, my fear or not. That's a straw man. Fact is, however, that covid is an infectious disease that caused a massive amount of harm and is not even close to being a common cold, which kills no one.

And while we are at a low and likely now endemic, this entire time, you've tried to act as if it was not serious, and even when you at times said it was, you've contradicted yourself with misinformed arguments.

I think it's because you hooked onto the GBD and let it dominate your thinking and thus you never grasped why their recommendations were rejected by public health experts around the world.
