we all know that 99 is not the number as many people died with Covid but not because of Covid. So, it's most likely better that 99.9. It is for 65 and younger. The logic used is common sense, not fear.

Though considered milder than other coronavirus variants, omicron has infected so many people that it has driven the number of daily deaths beyond where it was last spring, before vaccines were widely available, according to Washington Post data.


Yet the seven-day average of deaths during the omicron surge has reached 2,600 in recent days, climbing past the late September peak of about 2,000 average daily fatalities during the surge of the more dangerous delta variant, according to Post tracking. The ranks of hospitalized patients with covid-19 reached record highs in January. Coronavirus deaths lag hospitalizations.

 

While tragic, 50,000 deaths is a more tolerable number. We could potentially lower that number with flu shots too. Only about half of all eligible get a flu shot. And although never 100% effective at preventing the flu, the more people vaccinated, more with immunity, less vectors to transmit the virus. Less vectors, less infections, less deaths.

COVID-19 is a novel virus in humans. And so far, about 9X deadlier than an average flu strain. Maybe that's just a number to some, but plenty of overworked healthcare workers care. Plus millions of grieving family members. Including about 200,000 kids who lost at least one parent.

And a large chunk of these deaths since April, 2021 were also preventable. Here is Texas' data. Unvaccinated 17X more likely to die through January, 2022. Here's recent numbers from Israel. Only 12% of people 60 and older are unvaccinated. But they made up 43% of the COVID deaths in the country. Higher rates of serious illness in all age groups from the unvaccinated too.

Ignore the data all you want. Natural Immunity may be the best thing to fight COVID, but it comes with a great risk. Especially if you're not vaccinated.

 

No doubt there were millions more and as such shows omicron to be milder. But I think this is fooling people about the danger. Omicron is extremely dangerous because it's so transmissible, and bc it's so widespread, it has been more deadly than delta for the unvaxxed.

2777 Americans deaths from covid were reported yesterday, more than the delta peak.

In what world does that constitute being over?

To put that 2777 dead Americans in perspective, about 1600 Americans die each day from cancer (typically the second leading cause of death in America), about 1900 Americans die each day from heart disease (typically the leading cause of death).

Got a feeling the death rate we are seeing are mainly with covid, not from covid. There's nothing official yet but the BA is working on ironing out the numbers and honestly this should have been the standard all along.

Tens Millions got Omicron and didn't have a problem, the data continues to show it has a very low mortality. Sadly when that many people get it there will be deaths. The one benefit is many have very good immunity now.

Nope. He’s saying volume is a problem. Not rate. The rate is surely much lower now due to Omicron. But the sheer peak volume is still a problem for a period of time (some places are past this point though, for now).

 

I'm saying that depending on date used, daily deaths for omicron are between 500-700 more per day than the daily deaths for delta.

So while I agree omicron is milder, my point is that the sheer number of cases have made omicron more deadly in terms of absolute number of deaths per day and those deaths are almost certain to be north of 90% (likely over 93%) unvaccinated.

I suspect you may be right but just for facts it would be nice to know.
Also curious on how many deaths were due to Delta, although the % of Delta is far less depending upon the numbers it could be a large % of the deaths(which supports the availability of Regeneron).
