That's a non-sequitur. Shouldn't you make the decision on a flu shot based solely on your vulnerability and exposure to the flu?

Or are you just making a passive aggressive swipe at those that consider the Omicron wave a global health crisis?

Lastly, a lower infection fatality rate but vastly more infections is still not good. We're looking at 2K+ people a day dying for the next month or so. The flu has killed 36,000 annually in the last decade. But trivialize away.

Just a reminder how we mobilized against this disease called measles. It took a decade. Imagine if we just said, screw it, it barely kills anyone (red line)?!

The vaccine may not be working as well at preventing spread with Omicron. But it's still doing very well at preventing hospilizations and deaths. Here are the most recent stats from Washington state.

12-34 year olds: 10X more likely to be hospitalized if unvaccinated

    35-64 year olds: 14X

65 and older: 13X for hospitalizations, and 15X more likely to die if unvaccinated.

To put this in perspective, 100 people in the hospital diagnosed with COVID. 50 are there for other reasons. But out of the other 50, 45 or more could've prevented their hospital visit had they been vaccinated.

Given the current strain on our hospitals, cutting the COVID patient total by 45% or more would be very significant.

This chart also shows how effective the vaccine still is. And how it's still our best defense against COVID. If we wait for more effective drugs to come along, how many preventable hospital trips would there be? How many preventable hospitalizations are happening now because people are unvaccinated? And at a minimum 10X more likely to be hospitalized if unvaccinated, can anyone still argue the vaccine doesn't work?

I believe in the vaccines. Like I've said. What I don't believe in is the firing of qualified, experienced personnel over the vaccine mandate & then using shortages to justify having infectious, symptomatic, Covid positive workers come in with the excuse that PPE should be sufficient. Heck I'm headed for my next show which is a FULL DOSE not the booster, already knowing that I'll probably get another in 4-5 months. Folks need to be vaccinated.

But this mess? Of forcing people? When you're already shorthanded in normal years let alone a pandemic? This tells me that folks like Hochul care nothing for patient safety & care more about being heavy handed and being right. Even when they're wrong.

Ridiculousness part 2. I had my son stay home yesterday to celebrate his birthday. When I called the attendance office, I specified SEVERAL times my son wasn't sick. So this is the email I was sent:

"I am asking for your help.

Please, if your child tests positive on an at-home test, please report on ECDOH website at //www.erie.gov/iq.

Here are a few reminders and links. I have also attached them to this e-mail.

For the required forms to get back to school post a COVID Isolation or Quarantine.

Self-attestation/AFFIRMATION is required for both a Quarantine or an Isolation. Print, fill out and sign for your child to return to school.

Click on the big red words. ECDOH COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Documents | Erie County, NY Department of Health

ECDOH COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Documents | Erie County, NY Department of Health

Last, but not least, in order to Return to Play PE and or Sports. Clearance is required by your child's pediatrician on the attached form. Your pediatrician already should have the form.

    Your help is gratefully appreciated.

Aside: remember when “if sick, stay home” applied ?

But let’s be honest. There were people who couldn’t afford to stay home.

So they’d come to work but warn you away with “Don’t get to close to me, I’ve got the crud.”

And to little effect, because no one feared the crud.

We had a patient that needed a note to return to work because he was covid positive. His employer wanted him immediately & wanted us to clear him to not quarantine. We of course did not. Found out later they fired him for not showing up. This was when quarantine was in effect. So yeah, employers are the big reason for the changes I think. Notice how Walmart & others have trimmed their sick time regarding covid, too.

I saw a number (think it was CDC) that already 95% of tested samples are the Omicron variant. It’s crazy how fast that happened.

The million dollar question, since Omicron is so different, is how well (and how long) does prior Omicron infection protect against other types of COVID.

She said more than just that.
    Many children on ventilators… false
Omicron is deadlier than delta… false

They are going to make a ruling that effects millions of people yet she is this misinformed??

A few studies out so far indicated it’s worked well at providing protection against prior variants like Delta. Hopefully that continues for any possible new variant.

Yeah it's their job to get their facts straight no matter what it is that they're ruling on. Doesn't make me feel confident if the highest court in the land can't get facts straight prior to ruling on something.

Here is something new: fake pop-up Covid testing centers that may be looking to steal your identity.

Pop-up Covid testing sites could be rife for nefarious activities, experts warn

question on current deaths. the omicron spike appears to start on december 22, give or take a day,in the 2plus weeks what percentage of deaths are actually related to it rather than delta, any ideas.
