just pointing out that all the wonder weapons in the war on covid are not reliable, sorry if the truth about them hurts, if they worked like they said they would we would not be having this conversation.

Yes. Been watching it since October and I am pleased it hasn't blossomed like Omicron did in South Africa. I'm hoping it's not getting lost in the Omicron surge because this strain is a bitch. More contagious than Delta and initially much more severe.

Who is "they" and when did they say the vaccines provide protection from Omicron infection? The strain's vaccine evasion has been known long before it reached our shores. You may be uninformed but here's a flashback from late November:

And when did "they" say the vaccines full protect against Omicron infections? Put up or shut up.

You may be uninformed so I recommend you catch up on vaccine evasion before sniping on things you don't understand.

    Not completely though.

As I initially said, not impossible but highly unlikely someone is reinfected with Omicron 2.5 months from a delta infection.

There is not enough data or any papers yet to really confirm the possible reinfection risk.

The most recent was from Dec 22nd out of the UK. It claimed protection from prior infection against Omicron was as low as 19%. The same study also said they found Omicron to be no less severe than Delta which we now know is just not true.

Even so, it at minimal appears reinfection would make it a mild case due to long term immunity protection.

I think the jury is still out on just how many confirmed reinfections are out there.

Me personally, I had covid in September 2020 which means I had the Alpha variant. I have had exposure to both Delta and just recently to someone with Omicron(assuming since it's the now dominant variant) who was positive on Dec 25th. I was around this person for hours on Dec 24th.
I didn't go get tested but I have had no symptoms of any illness.

The 19% protection is the number I've seen as well.

Why do you think it's unlikely to get Omicron within 2.5 months after being infected with Delta? The 19% number is based on 6 months after Delta recovery. I assume it gets worse after that.

Agreed - the existence of a different variant I thought was the important part, as for example that person traveled a great distance & infected 12 others that they found. Hopefully it fizzled already but it can only help in future vaccine development.

This article is from last April. Those of us informed and with an understanding of how viruses work knew we were in a race between vaccine and variant. From the article:

The vaccines will eventually provide broad protection against COVID-19, but we are still a long way from vaccinating the majority of the population. There are concerns that the current vaccines may not protect us against new variants. For now, the data suggests they will, at least against the U.K. variant that is currently causing the surge in cases. The future is always uncertain, and it is possible that six months down the road, much as we do with the flu, we will need updated vaccines against whatever the dominant circulating strain will be at that time. The pharmaceutical companies are already working on this eventuality.
April was when Delta was just emerging as the dominant strain. Nobody knew what the future held, but the potential of a vaccine resistant virus variant was always a possibility. Just because you didn't understand this, doesn't mean the experts and those of us who listen to them didn't know this was a distinct possibility.

Thankfully, so far, the vaccine has kept most out of the hospital. Even if Omicron is good at evading both vaccine and prior immunity.

I have continued to support people’s ability to follow the data. You are the one using a persons death to lie about me. I have never once said you cannot die from Covid if you are healthy. I have only stated that the data supports you are low risk. And that the disease is not that dangerous to most. You can disagree with that. And if your risk tolerance for disease is small we probably have a different view of low and high risk.

You are so dug into peddling these new drugs that you are willing to use the death of a 46 year old that we know nothing about other than she was in politics and a DA. You are better than that. And I am not surprised you question the possibility of preexisting conditions only for the story you want to use to push your narrative. In fact I was betting you would…

This is my hope as well. Continued less severe disease and hopefully we can finally get past the political aspects. Though I think it is going to take years for that now.

Glad you are having minimal to no symptoms.

I think we are going to see some off the charts numbers in cases this week into next as kids go back to school.

No different than a vaccinated person getting a breakthrough infection. Vaccine is supposed to mimic an infection and provide immunity by training the immune system to recognize and fight the virus, without falling ill. I would suspect in both cases the person would have a much better chance of not getting seriously ill the 2nd time.

I don’t know what to tell you. It’s only anecdotal and 2nd hand info. Obviously don’t take it as gospel. But previous infection is doing little to keep people from testing positive for omicron in my experience.

It is far less severe than the OG strain. My daughter is the only one of us three that has symptoms. Perhaps because she’s too young to be vaxed? I’m not sure. But it’s still mild with her thank god.

Right, the rhetoric from the anti-vaxx crowd is that infected immunity is superior. You can easily be infected a second time regardless if you have infected immunity or vaccinated.
