That would not be accurate or even close. Share some facts.

FL went from the highest with Delta and after it ran it's course went to one of the lowest. Now trending back to one of the highest. The answer is probably

    -started from a lower point
    - infections seem to propogate faster and sooner than most states, probably due to tourism, travel, and otherwise non existent covid protocols

You are correct in the statement you can’t have a reasonable conversation with someone when he is a scientist addressing how viruses spread and you reject the idea that immunity has to reach s certain percentage of the population for the virus to die out or become endemic. And, 70% (it really is 60%) is not a high enough level.

That is how statistics work when you are at the lowest rate. Especially in a tourist state for a highly transmissible disease.

Saw this morning that Puerto Rico is up over 4000%…

You are wrong. Again. Setting aside your inartful terminology, I know too many people who have had COVID twice now that Omicron is here. And I know vaccinated people too. The studies show that prior infection and vaccination confer a stronger immunity than either by themselves. There are numerous studies upthread that show this. So, the choice isn’t binary. Prior infected people can still make the smart choice to get vaccinated. Once again, your simplistic syllogisms ignore facts.

Not only did we have the largest percentage increase in daily new cases last week, we also had more daily new cases than anyone else last week. We looked bad in both relative and absolute comparisons. We haven't reported cases since the 31st. Hopefully we peaked and are headed back down, but no one knows until some time later today when we start reporting data again.

While anecdotal like your situation. I still do not know a single reinfection. And I will assume your situation is the reinfection is not confirmed and just testing positive three months apart. We know the new drugs are not working worth anything right now to slow the spread. And even if there was a three fold increase in reinfection (not confirmed) as some small study concluded about a month ago if memory serves me correct. It would still be extremely rare. Unlike breakthroughs.

Agreed that hopefully we peaked. There are two things going on imo. One being we started low and because of that we are going to see a drastic increase. The other is that I believe (could be wrong but think it is the agreed opinion on here) that a positive test gets tacked into the state the test occurs in. Florida has a lot of tourism going on right now. So while certainly a fraction of the positive cases. I would bet more than normal are from people who are not from Florida.

As you said…hopefully we peaked. Also hopefully this continues to be a weaker variant. We had an employee test positive this weekend. Boyfriend tested positive late last week. She became symptomatic this weekend.

I agree with you on the cloth masks. Please note I said cloth masks with 5-layer filters inserted.

My son is in the system & being followed since he had it twice post vaccine. Mercifully zero issues but we all are keeping an eye. Hoping other parents registered with VAERS & I think our peds told us Pfizer is following, too. No actual sports right now but full strength & conditioning 3-4 times a week with no issues.

Edit - to clarify, no sports right now because he's in offseason for baseball, which doesn't start til April or May up here. He doesn't have any restrictions per se.

I honestly think it's returning too soon too fast. That's what looks like happened to my son, no health issues other than mild asthma, gets a cold maybe once a year. Guidance needs to be looked at for high intensity sports for sure.

The chances are that if they had myocarditis they would have been symptomatic to the point that they would not have been playing. From the CDC

We have a provider who got covid, was vaccinated fully, got his booster, and got covid again. So while rare, not unheard of (by tracing seems he got it from his son, who is vaccinated but went to a sleepover with some friends who weren't).

yeah I saw post 32504 above also. Thx

Florida has more cases per 100k than it ever has by far and just about the worst state over last few weeks.

this variant is much more contagious - easier to transmit. Just observational but fewer people are wearing masks now. Be sure to wear one in public and get your booster.
