For clarity. I was using the term "blessing" in a bigger sense, not on a personal level of course. To those harmed by any illness, it is never a personal blessing.

    Well said.

Certain segment of the population in 2020: "Infections be dammed. It's a flu!"
Same segment of the population in 2021: "Look at all the infections. The vaccine doesn't work!"

Meanwhile, ignoring the positive hospitalization and fatality trends associated with the vaccine. This is how the politicization and disinformation have blinded people.

I sure hope so and there are some indicators that the weakening variant can be a good thing in the long run. The concern, OTOH, is that even with a low % of bad outcomes, a huge raw # of infections still leads to a large # of bad outcomes.

Looking at VT and NY in that second chart - appears to be optimal outcomes, in terms of fatalities. How much hand-wringing was there about the "data" in VT and NY? Perhaps some of those citing VT & NY stats will recognize (optimism).

Agree. Just thinking big picture/raw numbers data. Not personal toll which is never a blessing.

Quick update from my neck of the woods -- the kids will be going back Monday as scheduled; however parents are to pick up testing kits for voluntary testing. They are highly encouraging it and reminding parents kids with any covid symptoms (anything but broken bones really) will not be allowed back in school without a negative test regardless of vaccination status.

So yay they get to go back. We've also been warned this may change in 2 weeks if we continue to have record numbers.

This reminds me & I have a question for the number folks. Up here starting around Christmas we start losing all our snowbirds. They're NY residents but they go elsewhere. Some leave as early as just after Thanksgiving.

So if those folks get Covid, do those numbers go towards the NY numbers or wherever they go? I was always curious about that. Thanks

Edit- because that may skew numbers for different states like Florida that get a large tourist/part time resident influx.

Btw like folks here aren't mad enough. Our county has a health commissioner. She's on salary, makes 170k/yr. Last year she made over 200k over that in OT, paid for by Covid funds. When questioned the county executive said anyone questioning it was antisemitic and a conspiracy theorist, and said it was a non issue.

Her OT was earned because she had to have press conferences where she repeated whatever the executive said.

    *facepalm*

I would add that while Pfizer also makes one of the vaccines, the pill will probably be more profitable.

I don't know if this was previously posted.. below is a good link from hhs to see hospitalizations, both non-icu and icu by state. you can select the state in dropdown and you will get a good idea of how certain states are doing re: hospitalizations

checked 3 states for % of beds utilized by covid patients florida was 7.85, new york 16.63 and ohio 19.06, so i guess florida is doing ok, right?
