Interesting that you think there are two alternatives, be a callous douchebag or hiding in your basement.
    Calling yourself partdopy seems generous.

Telling isn't it that this poster created a strawman of "forgo enjoying nearly 3% of your life (2 years, so far,"
to explain the sociopathic admission "I have no responsibility to society and others except those I choose to have responsibility for. Society doesn't care about me either and that's just fine with me, I can take care of myself and family.[/QUOTE]" By forgoing life's enjoyment? How sad a life that another vax ( since most everyone has already had many), or wearing a mask would define an enjoyable life.

The NFL went the opposite way. It relaxed its testing and protocol regimen for vaccinated asymptomatic people. European countries putting in movement and social context restrictions. There are different approaches to this. Tike will tell what is best.

There was a really good explanation on the podcast that I linked from Paul Offit. That 90+% was a read 3 month read out because of the condensed time line. In most other vaccines that are developed not during a pandemic, the final efficacy numbers are reported after twelve months. So, I do not think anyone who has been around vaccine development expected the 90% to hold up. They allowed the media to report it to try and encourage people to get vaccinated.

If you recall, the CDC and FDA agreed that any vaccine that demonstrated 50% efficacy or better would be acceptable to start with.

It only “doesn’t work” because you have bought into the stupid. You don’t really want to understand virology or immunity at all. Because it has been explained repeatedly in this thread. Moderna yesterday just cited the efficacy of its vaccine booster against the new variant. The data on severe illness and death is clear. As for shut downs and such, some European countries are heading there. Personally, I don’t think we should shut down. Get vaccinated, boosted, take the new prophylactic antibody pill. And if you get a cold or mild illness, that’s life. And for those who want to roll the dice, too bad for them if they roll snake eyes. I do feel bad for those who were vaccinated but are still at risk because they are immunocompromised or have underlying conditions. Because folks like you don’t care if they live or die and make life worse for them. But, you seem content to minimize their lives.

I had not even thought about that side of it. I know a couple at a Christmas Party just got the booster. Said it knocked them out for three days and it was terrible. Anecdotal. And certainly still going to be case by case…

Damn, a sub-19 is impressive. And the weight loss. Well done!

You can live life without putting others at risk. It is not just unvaccinated spreading this thing. We have leagues with almost 100% vaccination rates that are shutting down and moving games.

One player in the entire NHL is not vaccinated. And they are stopping their season.

Why the NHL is having a huge COVID-19 outbreak despite high vaccination numbers

We have to stop blaming those who choose not to vaccinate!

I was stoked with that one. I did not run it last year as virtual running is not my thing. So two years ago I ran 20:03. Somehow finished 4th in the 35-39 age group at 39 years old and cutting a minute off my time (won that age group with a 21:10 the year before and none of the three who beat me were 35 so not sure where they came from lol). Yet to run in the 19s…:)

82.5% of NYC adults are fully vaccinated and 90.7% have at least one dose. The vaccine helps people stay out of the hospital. The vaccine isn't perfect, but no vaccine is. And why should perfect be the enemy of good? Do you refuse to wear your seat belt because it isn't 100% effective from stopping death from an accident?

The vaccine does a lot of good. What else consistently lowers the risk of infection, hospitalizations, and death from COVID?

It is an impossible question to answer.

I think we would have been better off to push the vaccines hard for the high risk groups and leave the low risk groups for clinical trials with more focus on vaccines that target a robust tcell/bcell response to go with the antibodies and therapeutics. But we did what we did and can’t answer if that would have been better.

Yeah, I ran an 18 min 5k in high school. Got fat and lazy as an adult (it's easy to do) and picked up running again in my 30s. Went from 195 to 167. Ran a 21:15 5k, and then a 1:40 half marathon. Then I was hardcore training for a marathon, tweaked my knee and caught the flu. After recovering, I went back to being a casual runner, and slowly got fat and lazy again. I'm back up to 190....grr...

Are you suggesting that because NY has had far more cases than FL of late that this is evidence of DeSantis doing better?

It is tough for sure. I have dealt with some knee and toe issues but so far I have just tricked through it. Had to take a month and a half off a few years ago and bike after trying to show my daughter how good I was at serving a tennis ball. Half inch vertical led to a partial tear of the meniscus. Since I was asymptomatic on the tests I rested from running and golf (torque on the knee was a no go after that for a while). I probably need to add some cross training in. The wife has me back on the tennis court. We had a lesson together last week and it was the first time I hit balls like that in 30 years. Felt good. Though I am still a little scared of the cutting with my knee. Basketball was my game when younger but I am afraid to do anything but shoot now.

I have only run one half marathon. Did not really train (to this day I do not run with electronics/watch/music/etc). Went out and set my pace. Was following a guy with a 1:45 sign and realized he was pacing for that time. This was early in my running career. I was hoping to break 2 hours. I followed the group for about 4 miles. Then heading down 16th Ave toward 34th St in Gainesville I saw the sign guy look at his watch. I went cruising by him. I was concerned my pace was way too fast. Ended up never seeing that group again. Ran 1:42:53.

Got about 6/7 miles in this morning in the rain…:)
