There is more than one way to protect yourself from COVID. The vaccine is simply the best way to protect yourself and others. Monoclonal antibodies work well, but only if treatment is early in the infection cycle. And the antibodies don't prevent getting COVID at all like the vaccine.

I got a booster. You said I was lazy. I take offense.

I'm getting my 17 year old a booster tomorrow. Partially to protect 85+ year old parents. But I guess we are lazy for doing that too.

You can spout your crazy and unfounded theories, but when you start to insult the integrity of people that are being contentious and doing what they are supposed to do you are crossing a line. I would follow with stronger language but it would be a clear violation of forum rules.

Sure if you are "healthy" your risk is lower. But you can still get the disease. You can still get uncomfortably sick, then spread it to loved ones, God forbid one of them doesn't meet your definition of "healthy". You still may end up losing your sense of smell for weeks or suffer other side effects. A small but non trivial sum end up with long covid symptoms, or other lasting side effects. And yes, an even smaller number of healthy people end up in the hospital and some even die.

Why? What is the purpose of any of that, when most of it can be avoided with a simple harmless vaccine? All because a trillion administered doses is not enough evidence for you and you fear long term unknown vaccine side effects that have never happened in history of vaccines before and probably aren't even biologically possible. It defies common sense that a vaccine has no side effects now, leaves the body quickly but somehow mysteriously affects you years down the road.

    But you do you.

What is the efficacy of the monoclonal antibodies overall?

Majority of breakthrough COVID-19 hospitalizations involve seniors: analysis

Most of the breakthrough hospitalization cases were over 65 (70%.) only 10% under 50. However 41% of unvaccinated hospitalizations were under 50.

Vaccinated older people stayed in the hospital a shorter stay than the unvaccinated younger group.

Most of the older vaccinated hospital patients had comorbidities, so it wasn't even clear if it was the covid causing them to be hospitalized. A comparatively lower percent of unvaccinated hospitalized had comorbidities ("healthy??"). Nonetheless the younger unvaccinated were more likely to have respiratory symptoms.

85% of the hospitalizations were unvaccinated.

So much for if you are healthy and young you have no risk. Older less healthy vaccinated were having better outcomes than healthier younger unvaccinated.

    Cases, Data, and Surveillance

As to hospitalization, the risk of hospitalization for an 85+ person is 10 times an 18-29 person. Given vaccines are ballpark 90% effective against hospitalization, the vaccine makes the 85+ risk comparable to the 18-29. Or conversely a young (and presumably mostly healthy) 18-29 unvaccinated person has the same hospitalization odds as an 85 year old (and comparatively less healthy) vaccinated person.

As I went back and looked at them seems to me they have remained reasonably civil - at least comparatively to other threads/post on the board. Curious which ones you think are embarrassing.

I deleted the ones mocking by so someones physical appearance.

But the constant mocking each other has pretty much driven a lot of folks from this thread. It is basically the same 10 people ripping each other at this point

You totally missed the context of the point in how I used lazy.

You can get the disease whether you are vaccinated or not. You can spread the disease whether you are vaccinated or not. The best way to be protected is to be healthy. And our country is lazy as a whole when it comes to health. We are 42% obese. That is a travesty. But a consequence of freedom. So many Americans want the quick fix to their health instead of taking the necessary long term measures to be healthy. These drugs build on that premise. Just give me the drug for protection when we know that being healthy is the number one way to be at low risk.

90% of the vitriol is driven by one aggressive troll. Why y’all won’t just ban him from this thread so the adults can discuss this pandemic peace is beyond me. I ignored him long ago and sometimes it makes the thread harder to follow due to lack of context. But still better than listening to the non stop trolling. Just ban him from this one thread and it’s instantly normal in here again.

You know what, I'm sorry. Sorry for painting you like a fear monger. I'm fully on board with vaxxing everyone, hell, lets vax pregnant women and vax the baby insider the birthing person also.

Now back to reality. I'll jump on board as soon as we have reliable covid death numbers. Don't worry everyone, the covid is God people will dismiss these "covid deaths" as nothing more than no big deal or say "well we undercounted covid deaths so this makes it even" LOL. Masks don't work, kids don't transmit covid near what adults do. This has been proven beyond a doubt except to the fear mongers like yourself.

When we make stupid policy off of "covid deaths" when this is what passes as a covid death these days:

In case anyone thought that kids would be left out of the "covid deaths" here are few beauties.

3 Brain cancers dying "from covid"

3 drug overdoses dying "from covid"

5 SIDS deaths that also had "covid"

2 Auto accident deaths also with "covid"

I can keep going if you guys want.

Children under 12 didn't transmit the wild type of COVID that much. The kids' immune system likely reacted too quickly for the wild type to build up enough viral particles to be able to shed and become contagious. But Delta changed that, since Delta can replicate itself much faster than the wild type. It's why more kids got sick asks can transmit Delta.

I don't think having a different opinion is trolling. Question his sources, point out your view of the facts, but attacking someone in a very personal manner wrt physical appearance is gross and NO excuse covers it. The person I am seeing take the worst hits is not a troll and has abstained from name calling from what I can tell.

I am not talking about the back and forth debate. My guess is you and I are not talking about the same person.

Deleting the posts of one particular poster and then scolding us all isn’t particularly helpful.
