Because they have zero risk. Almost zero risk with taking the vaccine as well, but that's not a selling point for most people, including me. My kids are at much higher risk of dying from the flu than covid. That is a fact.

Then why do you keep bringing up the CDC data?

I don’t need to look it up. I’m not the one discounting deaths from one virus/disease but not others. I’d imagine a certain percentage of deaths from/with the flu were children with other health conditions as well. You’re not comparing apples to apples. You can’t discount a percentage of deaths from one virus/disease without doing the same to the one you’re comparing it to. At least not if you want an honest discussion you can’t.

The number of kids dying of covid with no other underlying conditions is very low, but not zero. The number of vaccinated kids dying of covid is even lower, or may actually be zero. So again, why not the vaccine?

Because they all get the data from the states health departments. And it's over counting covid deaths by 35%. That's why.

The same arguments against vaccinating kids for the mumps are the same arguments people are making as a reason not to vaccinate kids against COVID. The mumps, like COVID, is almost always very mild in kids. And mumps, like COVID, tends to be worse if you contract it when you are older. So, the argument went, only older people who never had the mumps should get the vaccine.

But as more and more research about the mumps came to light, doctors realized that even though the mumps was usually mild in kids, it wasn't always. The mumps also had some potential long term, negative effects. The vaccine proved to be much safer than contracting the disease. Not to mention, the best way to protect those vulnerable from the mumps was to vaccinate all, and reach herd immunity.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. While most kids who get COVID just have mild, if any symptoms, you cannot discount the fact that thousands have been hospitalized, and sadly, hundreds of died in the US alone. The vaccine has proven to be safer. Even the slight risk of myocarditis in kids from the vaccine is lower, and there have been no cases of myocarditis leading to MIS-C from the vaccine. The same cannot be said for kids who caught COVID.

Furthermore, with Delta, kids are now significant vectors for the spread of the virus. The best way to protect everyone is for everyone eligible to get vaccinated. Vaccination reduces the risk of a person getting the disease, and if they do, reduces the period a person is contagious, therefore limiting the spread of the virus.

Arguing over just how many kids died from COVID versus dies with COVID is silly. Fact is, even one kid dying from COVID is too many, especially today, when the vaccine is wildly available.

I'm sure most flu deaths are from kids with underlying conditions also. So cool, let's treat covid in children like the flu. That's what I want. Thanks for agreeing with me. Glad we are on the same page.

We should treat COVID in kids like the flu. And for the record, the Mayo Clinic, the CDC, and other health organizations all recommend everyone eligible, including kids, should get a flu vaccine shot. Why? Simple. Though not 100%, the flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting the flu. Just like the COVID vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID.

We have a couple of healthy kids dying from the vaccine also. It's not zero. Don't worry, i'm sure each of these had a very reasonable excuse other than the vaccine...

So your argument isn't that the CDC is overcounting pediatric cases, it is the state health departments that are doing it?

For those following along at home, he brought up the CDC overcounting pediatric cases as rebuttal to the claim that COVID-19 was a leading cause of death in October among adults.

I was hopeful that he would click the link and see that the only CDC data used in the study was vaccination data to estimate the number of Americans who died because of those preaching against vaccines. He didn't. But that is okay, people make choices and believe things with out any validity all the time, you can be more informed.

Flu shot is FDA approved. Let me know when the covid vaccine is fully fda approved. Until then you are comparing apples and steak.

Maybe you missed this announcement? Yes, this is for adults 16 and older. Children 12 and older received emergency use in May, and here's the emergency announcement for kids 5 an older from October. Full approval is expected early next year. Will that honestly change your mind?

And while the flu vaccine is approved, they go through a regulation process every year, since the vaccine changes annually. Researchers and medical professionals take their best guess as to which strains will be the most prevalent every year. The flu vaccine changes every year accordingly. The COVID vaccine has not yet have to undergo any type of review, since it hasn't yet changed.

OK so fewer kids die from vaccine than covid. Again, why not the vaccine?

Nice job moving the goal posts here. Admittedly I scroll past a lot of your posts, so may have missed it. Don’t recall FDA approval ever being your concern regarding vaccinating kids.

Nope. Emergency isn't FDA approval. Also, comparing the myocarditis risk from the vaccine to the any risks from the flu shot is ridiculous. Anyone not biased would see that. But i'll never accuse you of being unbiased, don't worry.

That's when you've failed when you blame "moving goalposts". I get it. You lost this argument and are hoping i don't respond. Better luck next time.
