It was predicted early on that eventually COVid would mutate to a less deadly strain.
I’m curious about the mortality rate also which may be tougher to figure out with data from africa. They certainly don’t have near the healthcare resources most other countries have.

I wonder how the freedom crowd will react to this. Will they express outrage if the U.S. bans flights from African countries?

I'm pretty sure the 'freedom' crowd would be fine with it if we banned flights from Africa permanently. ;)

Work hard at it and you may be able to figure out the way variants are named.

    Or maybe not.

It is a Greek letter but the Greek alphabet has an Omicron (letter O in the middle of the alphabet where we would find O in the English alphabet) as well as Omega which is at the end of the alphabet. They are different letters and used in different places.

Just confused me as a Greek guy who suffered through years of Greek school.

The left roundly criticized Trump when he tried to halt flights from China in Jan of 2020….

He didn't try to halt flights. He didn't allow Chinese Nationals into the country. However, the flights continued under his policies and any US citizen or person that got exemptions were allowed to walk straight into the country with no quarantine or other protective measure. I criticized the policy at the time as obviously not coming from a place of public health, as a public health based policy would include quarantines on American citizens upon return.

This in no way rebuts the suggestion from my question.

So when will the cadre of hypocritical, bluu-check progressives assail Biden for his racist, xenophobic “Africa Ban”?

I’m guessing some time this weekend but will keep checking….

If he bans all South African passports instead of coming up with a system to restrict access to people in the affected region (i.e., all people flying from Johannesburg), I will certainly criticize him for it.

No, not really at all like that (given that we put most asylum-seeking immigrants into detention facilities upon arrival). The world doesn't revolve around your feelings and resentments.
