Dumba**es taking an untested, experimental treatment after getting Covid instead of an FDA approved, proven safe vaccine to prevent getting Covid at all.

    Idiocracy and Deliverance were documentaries.

You realize monoclonal antibodies have been around for decades and new ones are approved almost yearly right?

I could be wrong, but believe the poster you quoted is referring to things such as Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine and the other unproven remedies.

Regeneron MAB has EUA same as most of the vaccines do, and the same as they all did initially.
Also the vaccines aren’t 100% effective. ask Colin Powell, I have numerous patients who have received the MAB after getting covid despite being vaccinated…

If that was the case why did he quote a post talking about MABs not the two meds you’re assuming he is talking about?

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: REGN) today announced additional positive results from a Phase 3 trial jointly run with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which assessed use of a single dose of investigational REGEN-COV®(1,200 mg administered via 4 subcutaneous injections) to prevent COVID-19 in uninfected individuals. The new analyses show REGEN-COV reduced the risk of contracting COVID-19 (i.e., laboratory-confirmed symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections) by 81.6% during the pre-specified follow-up period (months 2-8), maintaining the 81.4% risk reduction during the first month after administration, which was previously reported in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Within the US, the absolute spread of covid b/t states is strongly associated with state pop size & density, with the big four states having the most cases and deaths. New York has fewer cases per 1m and FL has fewer deaths per 1m. But these differences aren't all that large.

NY was hit first & worst with the outbreak & deaths at a time when we had no therapeutic weapons or vaccines. NY also saw a second surge this past Jan but a far smaller rise in associated deaths. Whereas FL's first surge came months after NY's, and they've experienced two big surges since then, with the worst spike in deaths coming in FL's third wave, despite widespread vaccine availability, but also delta.

. You also have to control for deaths in relation to vaccine availability over time.

    Well that escalated.

US futures and oil plunge as new Covid variant fears slam global markets

Hong Kong/London(CNN Business)Dow futures plunged and oil fell more than 6% on Friday as the emergence of a new Covid-19 variant rattled global markets.

US markets, which were closed Thursday for Thanksgiving, were slammed before the start of Friday's shortened trading session. Dow (INDU) futures fell more than 800 points, or about 2.3%, at 6.45 a.m. ET. Futures for the S&P 500 (INX) and Nasdaq (COMP) were down around 1.8% and 1% respectively.

South Africa's health minister said Thursday that a new coronavirus variant appears to be spreading rapidly in parts of the country. It has also been detected in Botswana, Hong Kong and Israel.

UK Health Minister Sajid Javid said the variant "may be more transmissible" than the Delta strain and that "the vaccines that we currently have may be less effective." The new strain has already prompted the UK government to ban flights from six African countries. Some EU countries are taking similar measures.

Heavily mutated coronavirus variant puts scientists on alert

Researchers in South Africa are racing to track the concerning rise of a new variant of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The variant harbours a large number of mutations found in other variants, including Delta, and it seems to be spreading quickly across South Africa.
A top priority is to follow the variant more closely as it spreads: it was first identified in Botswana this month and has turned up in travellers to Hong Kong from South Africa. Scientists are also trying to understand the variant’s properties, such as whether it can evade immune responses triggered by vaccines and whether it causes more or less severe disease than other variants do.
    ...
Researchers spotted B.1.1.529 in genome-sequencing data from Botswana. The variant stood out because it contains more than 30 changes to the spike protein — the SARS-CoV-2 protein that recognizes host cells and is the main target of the body’s immune responses. Many of the changes have been found in variants such as Delta and Alpha and are linked to heightened infectivity and the ability to evade infection-blocking antibodies.

But the variant’s apparent sharp rise in South Africa’s Gauteng province — home to Johannesburg — is also setting off alarm bells. Cases increased rapidly in the province in November, particularly in schools and among young people, according to Lessells. Genome sequencing and other genetic analysis from de Oliveira’s team found that the B.1.1.529 variant was responsible for all of 77 of the virus samples they analysed from Gauteng, collected between 12 and 20 November. Analysis of hundreds more samples are in the works.

Vaccines have been around even longer. I think that was his point. The same people who refer to the vaccines as “experimental” don’t use that qualifier for the Regenerin treatment.

I see them both as basically equivalent, in terms of how “experimental” they are (basically not at all at this stage) and how effective they are. Both are for the purposes of getting antibodies into your system to help fight off actual COVID infection.

The vaccine is just a quick jab into fatty/muscle tissue and it’s over. Your body reacts and creates the antibodies. The other is literally getting hooked up to an IV and having them delivered into a vein for 3 hours.

Seems rather deranged to be “against” the easier option, and “for” the more intrusive option that you would only do in a short window AFTER infection.

    Agree with your 2nd paragraph.

As far as the 3 hour IV and POST infection remarks they are somewhat inaccurate at this time. You can get Regeneron SQ in a matter of a couple minutes and you do not need to be Covid positive but merely exposed so basically almost anyone is eligible since anyone in a public enclosure is exposed.

As far as deranged, I think anyone who has some ungodly fear of vaccines based on political concerns is deranged. Especially those who somehow think X pharmaceutical company is evil and not to be trusted but Y company is trustworthy and virtuous.

Maybe it turns out to be a less deadly variant? Mutations aren’t necessarily bad.

I don’t think we should worry about this for now unless it shows to be more deadly, or there is evidence it could supplant others as the dominant strain.

I seem to recall some were wondering why there was such low transmission in Africa (assuming they are factoring in likely questionable data collection). So maybe this is just the first strain of the virus to take hold there for whatever reason. It’ll probably get around the world, but if it doesn’t supplant Delta or isn’t more deadly it wouldn’t matter. Hell if it turned out to be LESS deadly (big if) it might even be a good thing if it supplanted delta. They don’t seem to be discussing any of that, it’s just “here’s a new variant we identified” and it has a certain # of mutations.

Actually the Regeneron MAB is also available in a SQ form and takes minutes to give. I have numerous patients who have gotten it.
