Assumed? You mean like Global Warming... and those made up numbers creating faulty models? Not, not the same thing. Getting the real numbers is difficult, but they can be attained. I would rather not take something that has not been proven to be safe.

Same here. But the covid vaccines have been proven to be very safe, so I got vaccinated.

Billions of doses is just not enough data points to really provide clarity.

No, those have NOT proven to be safe.

I'll just take my preventative therapeutics and be just fine... not worried about heart problems and not worried about blood clots.

Only the dumb will die young and unfulfilled... Those poor/intelligent programmed idiots in our vast universe will whither on the vine, becasue of words iterated by others about their lives... This statesmen has nothing to do with the vaccines. It's universally pertinent.

Over 5 billion jabs given, and the number of heart problems and blood clots number maybe in the thousands? And the blood clots are mostly limited to a single vaccine, the J&J, a single gender (women) and specific age groups. So just don't give these women J&J and blood clot issue resolved!

Meanwhile, we hit the 700,000 mark in Americans dead from COVID. To put that in perspective, that's more than WW1 and WW2 combined.

Sen Murkowski spoke out against the divisiveness and unending ignorance that some Americans are showing.

Also, the next idiot who compares sane and prudent public health measures to the Nazi Holocaust, should be put on a plane to Washington DC and forced to spend the entire day at the US Holocaust Memorial and Museum. Maybe they can begin to understand how truly ignorant that they are.

Murkowski bemoans surge of covid cases in Alaska, decries Nazi references about mask mandate

Yeah, that is interesting. I wonder how much of that is behavioral differences. Vaccinated people might, somewhat counter-intuitively and on average, be more cautious about interactions with others, lowering their risk, while those that aren't vaccinated but have had previous Covid infections might put themselves in riskier situations. It is also interesting that it seems like both the vaccine and natural immunity are declining in effectiveness, but the vaccines at a faster rate. Of course, the good news on vaccines is that we have a method outside of re-infection to improve immunity- booster shots.

So this data appears to show that being vaccinated offers more protection than having been previously infected. I know someone here who isn't going to like that.

So you won't be taking these "preventative therapeutics".

CDC announcement should put these hideous vaccine passports to a quick death but somehow it doesn't seem likely.

I guess it depends on the definition of effectiveness? The vaccines and your natural immune system both have a neutralizing component against infection, but then also a neutralizing component against severe disease that the body brings to bare once you are infected. By all accounts, our longer term immunity against severe disease is still very good out to 1 year.

I would like to see even more refined data, however on the re-infections. Are they less severe? Are the more severe (like Dengue Fever where the second infection is much more deadly than the first)? Can we identify markers that correlate with whether 2nd infections will be more or less severe?? Still much, much more data analysis to do in this area.

You overlooked her part of the comment about "coming home to someone who is not vaccinated or is immunocompromised".

Your tweet, inadvertantly just strengthed the case for vaccine passports because if everyone is vaccinated the probability of transmission, while never 0, is reduced.

Now, before you take my head off, I will tell you that I am not in favor of these either as a long term policy. I believe that air travel, cruise ships, stadiums, etc and others should be allowed to required riders, participants, etc....to be vaccinated and show proof, and that a centralized digital system would make that easier, but I am not advocating for it.

There are a few posters here who are a constant source of misinformation about the effectiveness of masks. I do not know what their agenda is, I view them as dangerous. They would be banned on some social media platforms.

This guy, Aaron Collins, has a BS and MS in mechanical engineering where he concentrated on aerosols. After graduating he worked for one of the largest aerosol instrumentation and equipment companies in the US. He has written papers on and holds patents in the area of aerosol instrumentation. On YouTube he is referred to as the "Mask Nerd." He has a full set of equipment and regularly tests various masks for efficiency, breathing resistance and other criteria.

The three best types of masks to wear are N95 (US standard), KN95 (Chinese standard) and one you might not be familiar with (but should be,) KF94 (South Korean standard). South Korea has developed very strict guidelines and testing standards and this has served their population well. He has also tested physician masks, replaceable filter cloth masks and "sanitizing" masks among others.

He has a LOT of videos out there, here is one to get you started:

Here's one he did on masks for children targeted at parents who actually care about their kids' health as opposed to promoting their own ill-advised agenda:

Even though I am vaccinated, I have had pneumonia twice, have hypertension and am exposed by virtue of my profession to some high risk areas and individuals. Based on the recommendation of my niece, who has a MS in Epidemiology and formerly worked with the CDC, I have been wearing respirators (KN95) since well before the official CDC advisories recommended mask wearing. Based on the Mask Nerd's recommendations, I just ordered some LG Airwasher (KF94) and some NIOSH listed N95s as I have some concerns about the authenticity of the KN95s I have been wearing.

I will continue to wear masks when and where suggested by responsible public health officials and other experts for as long as suggested.

Great stuff! Too bad it's a waste unless you use those N95 type masks which 99%+ don't use. So yes, masks are worthless. But thanks anyways for the videos.

No, it's not a waste. You must have "glossed" over the part where I said he tested other masks as well, all of which prevent transmission of aerosols to some extent...even the surgical style masks.

I have been seeing more and more of the KF94 masks, but did not realize what they were until I actually took the time to learn about this stuff.

No, they don't work. But it's great for virtue signaling. Only the ones I specified work. And for sure they aren't needed by kids. That's beyond stupid.
