This isn't only about deaths. It's about the nature of outbreaks themselves.

A Harvard Virus experts says up to 70% of the population will catch it within the next year and a half before a vaccine is ready, so if the 2% death rate holds up, that’s up to about 4.6 million dead Americans... the democrats are taking this hoax too far!

I am concerned that this notion of underreporting swings both ways. The Chinese finally had to admit to the WHO that everyone who had a fever was dragged off to the "isolation camps" for later testing when they could get to them. Emergency rooms in the US are going to become overloaded with everyone who has a cold, the flu, etc running to the hospital I fear.

Again, I have zero medical training , but I have been involved in major crises in semiconductors. Most recently when defects threatened major, major phone launches from Korean and US smartphone makers. In the initial panic, people are moving so fast and working so hard trying to solve problems, countless small mistakes are made that makes problem solving 2-3× more difficult. The devil always in the minute details.

I fear that our healthcare professionals are working in that same "crisis-panic" mode right now.

We need TIME. We need people to actually educate themselves from the best (not infallible) sources like the WHO and the US CDC. We need to stop politically motivated attacks and bickering cluttering the discussion (not on our message board, but on the national level). Finally, we need to give the folks at CDC and WHO and private sector scientists resources to point the awesome power of America's bio-medical infrastructure to study, analyze and experimentally test their work in combatting this virus.

I do not doubt that this virus is a serious threat. I also do not doubt we will find a solution if we focus our nation's resources

Obviously as a guy with UF Physics and Materials Engineering degrees I am a firm believer in US technological innovation and problem solving, especially in the face of panic.

Trump and his people are lying to us because he thinks this will hurt his campaign...

    “It’s contained nearly airtight”
    “Numbers are going down”
“Cases will be close to zero in a couple days”
    “It’s a hoax”
“A vaccine will be ready in 2 to 3 months” CDC says 18 months....

Also read that he wanted to recommend the regular flu shot and didn’t seem to understand or care that it wasn’t effective, but was talked out of it.

So every year I either get or dodge a new strain of Influenza and Rhinovirus (flu & cold). Is this another thing I’ve got to dodge every year?

It’s ridiculous. I expect calm and rationale communication not fricking lies of a fat 5 year old. President should say factual, rational, and boring stuff like: “We have procedures in place, it’s likely we will have cases in the US. We will use all our resources to contain the virus to the best of our ability but some infections are inevitable. Best you can do is use sanitary procedures in your daily life... blah blah blah. “

I think you may want to change your calculations of deaths in the US in the next year.
    From the article:

"He added that 1 percent of those who develop symptoms could die."

While "up to" 70% may contract COVID-19, how many (what %) of that "up to" 70% will "develop symptoms"? And that unknow % of the 1% "could" die but they may not, so what % of the unknown % of the 1% will ultimately die?
