I mean why does it have to change?
If they say 90% vaxxed would end it...then let that number ride and push for the mark.

No end goal creates an unmotivated populous in some ways.
The 90% number if used for instance, would not likely have to change, though the journey there may.

I think the desire for a viewable finish line is a just one.

The evidence regarding vaccine effectiveness has not changed to the point of justifiably moving the goal posts for ending perpetual draconian COVID policy.

Bottom line is that vaccines are still highly effective. They've always been highly effective. And everyone barring rare exceptions have had the opportunity to get them.

It’s still highly effective but it’s not as effective as it was. It’s waning. So yes SOMETHING has changed with regards to vaccine efficacy.

Why should we care about transmissibility that doesn't lead to hospitalizations?

These two are not tethered, they can be separated. Transmissibility, is not the same as hospitalizations.

So a few entities have a mask mandate and 'the American people deserve a reason'? Virtually everything in the country is wide open now. The localities that do have mask mandates are local decisions and can be addressed by the voters of those localities. In any case, it's a very far cry from the 'lockdowns' you were talking about.

    It's still incredibly highly effective.

Also, when you emphasize the level in which the effectiveness of the vaccine is waning to the point that people think that this is a dramatic shift, you are disincentivizing people to take the vaccine.

You are undermining the efficacy of the vaccine.

If you were a Republican, everyone here would be calling you a science-denier. But because you're doing this to provide cover for government action, people will back you up. Funny.

Because it DOES lead to more hospitalizations. Lets say I get a covid breakthrough case (as Pfizer is only ~60% effective against preventing me from getting covid now) I am then contagious for about a week and am able to pass the disease on to others that have not been vaccinated who could then be hospitalized and/or die. Now apply that little example to EVERYONE and you see our hospitals being overrun in the current Delta spike. Hence the changing benchmarks.

I agree it should be addressed by the voters. But that's kind of side-stepping the issue in the first place.

Do you agree with the measures I showed you or not?

That people run harder when a finish line is in view.

It's only undermining the efficacy of the vaccine if you're too stupid to understand that it still prevents severe illness and death. You want me to lie about the waning efficacy of the vaccine to encourage dumbasses to get the jab?

You are exaggerating the relevance of the "waning efficacy" to justify draconian COVID protocols.

You can't have it both ways.

Either the vaccine is highly effective or it isn't. Pick one.

I'm doing no such thing. I'd feel much better about removing any and all mandates if the vaccine prevented me from getting and THEN SPREADING the disease. And its not doing that anymore. That's why we are seeing a massive spike right now.

    You addressed your own concern.

Suggesting that transmissibility regarding the vaccine matters because it may eventually lead to transmission to someone who isn't vaccinated to being hospitalized is not a legitimate knock on the efficacy of the vaccine. The person who is vaccinated is still protected.

The person who isn't vaccinated is at risk of hospitalization and was always at risk of hospitalization.

So, to appease you, all this does is go back to a question I asked a while ago, "what percentage of people have to be vaccinated for this to end?"

Again, who cares if you get it and are asymptomatic or get a mild case?

And guess what... if you're vaccinated and get it, that's probably the kind of case you're going to get.

And if you're worried about giving it to the unvaccinated. Fine, that's your choice. Don't force everyone to adopt your choice. It's their choice to be unvaccinated, it's not your fault or my fault if either of us give them COVID. They bear responsibility for their choice not to get the vaccine.

Sure it is! It was 90+% effective against preventing infection and thus further spread and now its down to 60%. Mask mandates were removed, large capacity events started back up and the vaccines efficacy against transmission began to falter in the face of the delta variant. The result is this MASSIVE spike that has out healthcare system overwhelmed in many places. This is what lead to the changing benchmarks. That and underestimating how many selfish morons there are in this country who refuse to get vaccinated.

As to your last question - I have no idea. Its a fluid situation. That's what everyone has been trying to explain to you for the last few hours.

I care that hospitals are being overwhelmed. Is that not a major legitimate concern?
