I don't disagree with most of this. I think the issue is that for 18 months we have been told to follow the CDC guidance. That puts a certain amount of responsibility on the CDC during this historic time. Integrity is the one tool that they have to keep us all engaged.

They lose integrity when a big group can convince them to change position without any movement in the science to back up that change.

Here is the funny thing Rick, some of the non-sense that gets spread around about Grand Conspiracies and vaccine lies and all of the other Q-Anon like cr@p takes away from some of the legitimate information. From everything that I have read, there is something to Ivermectin. Scientists just have not been able to identify what, why and how, not to mention how much. Rather than people running around with fake websites selling people on fantasies and quoting data that is of dubious sources, we should be helping to drive the Ivermectin studies. Quoting a story about how Ivermectin kills parasites, however, does nothing to further the discussion concerning it use as an antiviral.

As an aside, do you know how Ivermectin kills parasites that causes onchocerciasis (river blindness)? It binds to proteins secreted by young worms that interfere with the host's (human or other mammal) immune system. By binding to the proteins, the immune system is freed up to release white blood cells that slowly kill off the worms allowing the dying worms time to flee the eyes and restoring sight. Past treatments killed the worms so fast that they piled up in the eyes making the blinding effect worse.

Now....that actually, in principle seems like it would have some promise combating a virus that has proteins (spike) on the surface of a lipid envelope. However, it is a long, long way from "seems like" and "it works and here is why". I am not one who is shouting down Ivermectin......but I am only going to be convinced by real data presented specifically to address Ivermectin interacting with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Not anecdotal stories which could have 1, 10 or 50 factors.

The situations did change rather dramatically with Delta. We were well on the way to getting past it and Delta changed everything.

    • Accusing an unvaxxed poster of killing children was nonsense.
    • Lumping everyone with doubts into the Trumpian cult is nonsense.
    • Telling me that my hesitancy/info gathering was purely selfish was nonsense.
    • Saying that kindness and facts don't work is nonsense.

But that isnt why the CDC changed direction. If the Union never pressures them, they would not have changed. Lets be honest here.

Was there something the CDC did not disclose? Which information needed to be shared and how are you certain it wasn't?

My suggestions would be stop referring to people who haven't gotten the vaccine as anti-vaxxers. I suspect most of them have received some vaccines in their life. True anti-vaxxers--you are not changing their mind. You are trying to reach the vaccine hesistant/resistant people.

and then 2--put the daily census hospital numbers out there far and wide by county. We have X number in the hospital with COVID, X are unvaccinated, X are partials, X are vaccinated.

You can find those numbers at times, but it's often in percentages and they blend time periods.

I just think a simple we have 200 hundred in the hospital with COVID and 192 of them are unvaccinated will be far more effective than anything else.

At this point, I think you're just barking at the moon. If there is a criticism out there or something you don't approve of, perhaps you can quote it. Otherwise, you are complaining about . . . what?

LOL, sure. I get that. The point was can one person be persuaded vs none.
The .004% post have a big impact as do most things that are overstated these days.

I don't keep a quote database like some folks. ;)
I think most level headed folks on both sides have seen their share of hyperbolic nonsense from both sides.
I call the right out too.

I just think that some of the vitriol has been nonsensical and counterproductive.

If you think accusing the hesitant of endangering children and only caring about themselves is a good strategy then by all means, carry on.

The "change" just so happened after a phone call with the teachers union...

Not sure how this is debatable.

The vaccine is working. No vaccine is 100% foolproof.

Alachua County COVID hospitalizations as of Thursday morning:

Adult: 288 (down from peak of 453 on 8/20)
Adult ICU: 105 (down from peak of 167 on 8/18)
Pediatric: 0 (first time since reporting started on 8/5)

Total percentage of pediatric hospitalizations relative to the total number of hospitalizations (since 8/5 reporting): 2.33%

I don't recall how high the local hospitalizations got, but I can see a reference to 255 hospitalizations in mid-January of this year.

Yes, but you call out the left a lot more often. How do you feel about the term 'coronabros'? There's a poster in this thread who has been extremely condescending and insulting. You've been his biggest defender.

w/o specifics, your rant (yes, it has grown to that point) is empty. What vitriolic statements are you disturbed by? Your last statement is a strawman, tilly. No reason for you to direct that at me.

Lets see, silly name vs child killer. They seem like the same thing to you?
But I actually did call ALL name calling out in a post yesterday saying we would start thread banning for it. If you see it, report it.
And My pointing out every time someone erroneously refers to him as a Trump supporter does not mean him and I agree on everything. He would probably find it odd being the number of times that I have countered one of his posts.

But sure "corronabros" if aimed at a poster would qualify as per my post yesterday.
