Did testing go up in those states as well? What was the positive percentage in the states where schools opened up higher than in states where schools weren't open? The article is behind a pay wall so I don't know if that's in the article. I don't care about quarantine numbers. They mean zero.

Interesting data on a Meta-analysis/review of SARSCOV2 in schools with contact tracing of ~113K children and adults→ children index cases 74% less likely to spread SARSCOV2 vs. adults [odds ratio=0.26; 95% CI: 0.11-0.63].

Question: What is the infectivity and susceptibility of students and staff exposed to SARS-CoV-2 in the school setting?

Findings: This systematic review and meta-analysis of all available data shows that SARS-CoV-2 viral spread is limited and child-to-adult transmission in the school setting scarce. Summary estimates indicate that young index cases were 74% significantly less likely than adults to favor viral spread and children are 43% less susceptible than adults.

Meaning: Overall, SARS-CoV-2 circulation in schools was limited and could be reasonably controlled with appropriate mitigation measures.

 

All the studies used for the meta-analysis were prior to May 15th, which means they don't give us any information about how Delta spreads. Given that Delta is the primary variant in the US currently, and is much more transmissible than previous versions of the virus, that would be a significant limitation on these results.

India hit their peak on or around May 1 this year. Not sure if delta is part of the study or not, but for sure delta is more transmissible but not more deadly.

 

Just another unfounded claim from you. We don't know yet. For sure younger people are dying more from delta, but whether that is because delta is more deadly or that more young people are catching it is still up for debate.

 

The study was about how likely coronavirus was to spread? Doesn't Delta being much more transmissible seem like the relevant variable rather than how deadly it is?

Also, I didn't see that any of the studies they included in their analysis covered India. Lots of European studies. Where Delta arrive in June/July.

 

It is more deadly given the odds are higher you will get it. If you do get it, I don't think it is materially more or less deadly.

 

We do know that. I posted a study from the UK saying such and the head of the CDC said the same thing.

Maybe a little bit of keeping the mindset of doing a little more for others could apply to everybody (even THFSG posters). Folks need to layoff of attacking any poster and stick to the points (if they care to engage at all)...even down to the back and forth "funny" tags which serve no useful purpose other than to antagonize.

Wow, thanks for posting those links. I had no idea. I had seen a couple of crazy school board meetings, but that Tennessee one was well over the top of anything I had seen previously.

I suspect that anti-maskers are not really about being anti-masking but that it provides a vehicle to release their frustrations.
