I’m more amused by his effort to try to appear as anything other than a partisan hack. Rick could roll in here and claim the vaccine makes your toes fall off and he wouldn’t say a peep. But that’s just because he’s pro vaccine and didn’t vote for Trump.

Here are some under 16 stats for FLORIDA:

    6/4 report: 7 deaths in 228,473 cases, 0.0030638% CFR
    8/27 report: 12 deaths in 381,573 cases, 0.003145% CFR
Differential: 5 deaths in 153,100 cases, 0.0032658% CFR

5 over the past almost 3 months is definitely an increase, but I'd consider it a slight increase from the winter spike. You can see the CFR hasn't changed substantially and remains extremely low for this age group.

being deathly ill with chances of long term problems isn't enough I guess...and kids are dying, just not at high enough numbers to matter I guess. as if 1 unnecessary hospitalization isn't too many, let alone 1 unnecessary death. I am glad my kids are 18 or older now and I am not having to deal with this

It's actually a bigger threat to 18+ than it is to <17.

we didn't have 50% +/- vaccinated and much higher % elderly vaccinated at the winter spike. I think that fact is getting lost in your analysis. it changes the denominator significantly and that results in a much more significant rise

Thanks for this. Do you have data for hospitalizations?

Not sure that is significant. 49% is the vaccination rate for 12-19. If we divide the 12-19 pop in half (estimate for 12-15 group) then we get roughly 483,161 vaccinated. Add the unvaccinated estimate for the 12-15 group to the 2,856,074 unvaccinated from the 0-11 group, and we are looking at a vaccination rate of approximately 12.6% for the <16 age group.

Our school board had pre-school year meeting a few weeks ago and nothing covid related was on the agenda.
I guess they figured it was like covid testing. Don't do it or talk about it and the problem doesn't exist. Bunch of cowards and now we see the very predicable results.

Delta is different. They should be able to see that by now. If not, somebody needs to point it out to them. Seems like a good job for a local pediatrician

I wish. I've asked for it, from many sources. No luck.

[EDIT: to clarify, my requests have been for additional breakdowns within the "pediatric" age groups]

    From Neil Tyson;
    In case anyone is curious…

Right now in the USA, every ten days, more than 8,000 (unvaccinated) Republican voters are dying of COVID-19. That’s 5X the rate for Democrats.

people who are opposing vaccination and masks bear some moral responsibility for excess deaths.

I think his point was that if 50% of even just adults 18+ were vaccinated during the first spike, WAY fewer children would have gotten covid resulting in fewer total children's deaths. 50% of adults are vaccinated now and the children's deaths are still more. I think that's significant.

I don't necessarily doubt this, but how is he getting his data for it?

Thank you for posting the data. Now, we know that the CDC has disclosed that 35% of pediatric death certificates has cause of death not plausibly related to Covid.

Also, we know that somewhere around 40% of all pediatric hospitalizations were not for Covid(even though the child tested positive).
