Guy’s an 88 year old retiree professor, and this was supposed to be an upper level class.

So I guess he expected/wanted no nonsense. Can’t blame him. State of Georgia i don’t think has his back either.

Perfect example of what we have been talking about. Student exercising her freedom to not wear a mask because she can evaluate her chances of getting seriously ill from COVID and who could care less that her teacher is in a vulnerable age group; even vaccinated, the risk is high at 88. GOP America, typified by Kemp, DeSantis. The student is selfish scum.

Said nothing about her party affiliation. Suggest you re-read it again.

Are you suggesting that these hospital/medical institutions have only vaxed 38% of their doctors/nurses? Do you have a link?

There was an article that came out a week ago with some stats. In all fairness, “staff” is an all encompassing group, but still, the numbers in the supposed health care profession are stunning to me.
    • Among nursing home workers, vaccination rates range from 9.8% to 64% in Brevard.
    • Among Brevard County Fire Rescue staff, 28% are vaccinated.
    • At Orlando Regional Medical Center, 38% of the staff is fully vaccinated.
    • At Advent Health Care in Tampa, 33% of the staff is fully vaccinated.

If you think we could have reached herd immunity with delta…then you are not paying attention. To reach herd immunity with delta we would have needed 90% fully vaccinated. And the you consider these drugs are not holding up to help slow the spread. It was never going to happen.

We need to get to the second generation of a vaccine. And we likely have made that take longer than it would have by pushing the vaccine on the masses instead of targeting and continuing to run trials with the healthy. Now we have an uphill battle to get to the next generation of a drug.

Not only that - some would claim that it's proof the vaccines don't work. o_O

Thanks for this, but those articles are behind paywalls. I'm not sure which contingency of the Advent staff this represents, but this article from July 22nd suggested 50% of staff were vaxed at that time.
All systems yellow: AdventHealth limits visitors, ponders staff vaccine mandate

The article did stipulate the AdventHealth Tampa campus. Similarly, the Health First System in Brevard had various rates amongst its hospitals ranging from a high of 74% in Viera to a low of 30% in Palm Bay.

Watching that Miami airport video. Smdh. Apparently the anti-mask mental illness link is plausible…..

Based on the CDC's study of LA County (link in WESGATORS post; see graph here) by the end of July roughly 76% of all new cases and 91% of all new hospitalizations occurred among people who were not vaxxed.

Think about if we had north of 90% vaxxed, how much less community spread, and fewer hospitalizations & deaths there would be and what that would mean for normalizing and relief from severe pressure on our healthcare system, even if we couldn't say we have herd immunity?

Yeah. Been there. We've definitely been stretched to the max where I am and many nurses see travel nurses sitting next to them getting paid sometimes 3 or 4 times what they're making even though they've been working for the hospital for years. It definitely makes it tempting for them to go do travel nursing. And if they do all that does is create more nursing shortages which makes the hospital have to hire more travel nurses. It's stupid. Instead of creating a vicious cycle of staffing issues the hospitals should just give their staff nurses a large Covid bonus for sticking around instead of hiring travel nurses they have to pay big bucks to thus making their existing staff want to leave to become travel nurses. o_O

Either way, I'm not going to leave. I certainly didn't get into critical care nursing for the money and I feel an obligation to the people I work with. But if there's one thing that Covid has done it's show hospitals that they really need to treat their staff well or they're screwed.

This face mask may kill off COVID-19, researchers say (msn.com)

Can this new face mask stop COVID-19?
The face mask — which uses silver and copper nanolayers — can neutralize the novel coronavirus, stopping COVID-19 dead in its tracks.

The mask will be called SakCu because “Sak” means silver in the Mayan language and “Cu” is the chemical symbol for copper, per Reuters (via Straits Times).

To test out the mask, the Mexican researchers took viral drops from COVID-19 patients and dropped them on the film on the mask, according to reports.

    • High viral concentration dropped by 80% in eight hours.
    • A lower viral load disappeared completely in two hours.

I have never emailed a podcaster before, especially one who is a practicing doctor, as well as consulting virologist. I am not sure if he will ever respond, but i asked if there was a single, consolidated source or report location for the child numbers that he could direct me to.

If I ever get a response/source, I will post it in this thread.

I ask because there wasn’t an uptick in the UK for pediatric deaths from Delta. I would like to know if most pediatric hospitalizations are still on the 35-40% not related to Covid. I know RSV has seen a huge uptick as well. I know the CDC Hs this data, wish they released it.
