Yes this narrative thst if you are healthy you'll be fine is stupid. True, your odds are much better, but it still isn't something to be trivialized. I enjoy watching Bill Maher but last week he kind showed his borderline anti vax colors as he grumbled about boosters, and said he got the vaccination " for the team", essentially implying he is so healthy it would never hurt him.

We have a good friend, she's about 50, overall pretty healthy, an athlete in her younger years, no health issues that I know of, and she ended up in the hospital with covid. Crazy Trump fan and was anti vax but now regrets not getting it. I don't think her life was ever in danger but she was miserable. Had the equivalent of a migraine headache for much of a week or two so bad she was throwing up and couldn't hold food down.

I understand this happened, but having natural immunity is significantly better than just taking the vaccine. Here is the data to back it up. Vaccinated people 13 times more likely to be infected and 27 times more likely to be symptomatic. Can’t understand why people are arguing this still. India had the same conclusion in their study. And this was with the delta variant as well as the India study.

And yet those same backwoods dimwits are rushing out for the totally experimental monoclonal antibodies treatments like it was Hobby Lobby handing out free Trump 2024 signs.

It is significantly better to have natural immunity than to have just the vaccine. I’m not advocating for people to not take the vaccine, but those that have already covid are safer than those who have never had covid but have taken the vaccine.

4.5 million or so that have already had covid are dead....I guess they are safer in the sense that they can't die again.

What part of "i'm not advocating for people to not take the vaccine" part didn't you understand?

What is the relevance of this point you keep making over and over again? Are you suggesting it is better to get covid, because if they don't die or have long term side effects, natural immunity may be marginally better than the vaccine?

If that is your point, that is one of the stupidest things you've posted yet. If it isn't your point, I have no idea what your point is.

Death has 100% efficacy against further infection.

That was kind of the point of my snarky post a while ago that I think went over people's heads.

People keep dismissing natural immunity like it's nothing. That is false. I provided the data. Anyone over 18 who hasn't had covid yet should get the vaccine. Anyone under 18 who is healthy I would question the need for getting the vaccine off the data we currently have.

Maybe the part of "people who have already had covid and have natural immunity" part went over your head. Someone needs to be living to have natural immunity. But hey, keep making snarky posts. Par for the course.

Real world case for immunizing children. Co-worker's 10 year old son came home from school not feeling well. No fever, no cough, just a head ache and sniffels. Two days later had a slight fever. Pediatrician ordered a PCR test and came back positive. Boy recovered easily in 3 days.

However, father unknowingly became infected and went in to the office before son's PCR test came back. He apparently violated the mask policy and low and behold, infected two other people in the office. That second person is 62 years old and in the hospital.

There were about 5 different ways that the virus could have been prevented from resulting in secondary infections. The easiest would have been to have the child vaccinated in the first place.

That is the problem. It is not just about protecting a child from something he or she may or may not need to be protected from, but it is about protecting all of those who the child comes would come in contact with after infection.

No I understand but why is that relevant, and why do you keep saying it? We are discussing the extent being healthy helps avoid covid, and then you interject that immunity from having covid is better than the vaccine, which is a completely different subject.

So a child gets the vaccinated father sick, who then gets a 62 year old vaccinated person sick as well?

We haven’t even discussed that kids under 12 aren’t authorized to get the vaccine. Sorry, but what you just described is ridiculously rare. And you don’t even know for sure that’s how the 62 year old got sick. I’ll stick with the data that’s out there.

You just offered a cogent argument for vaccination. Because one doesn’t have control over who one comes into contact with. In your example, a Vaccinated person who didn’t realize his illness was COVID infected an unvaccinated person who ended up in the hospital. So, when one looks at the hospitalization and death rates now, controlling for age, the difference is that those vaccinated get less severe disease and don’t require hospitalization as much. As long as we are reasoning by anecdote, a vaccinated friend of mine traveled overseas with 6 people right before Delta exploded. They all got infected and were together. All got really sick; bed ridden. High viral loads form being with each other and infected. My friend was in bed 14 days and lost 20 pounds. He could not eat. His doctor told him they if he had not been vaccinated, he would have been in a hospital or a grave. The vaccine provides protection against bad luck. The way the overall numbers are breaking down as reported elsewhere in these threads.

This should be so obvious but obviously it isn't to some. We have become so self centered the only thing important is how it affects *me*. Nothing else is important. It makes me wonder if we can ever accomplish anything collectively again.

Because literally no one discusses it. You don’t see articles in the MSM talking about it hardly at all, yet it’s a huge thing that should be discussed. We knew last year about natural immunity. IF we prioritized unvaccinated people after vaccinating the elderly first, we might’ve saved more lives.
